With the quick approach of Crafty Affaire Market and my upcoming booth deal, I’ve been busy behind the scenes gathering all kinds of stuff.

While I was creating a few new yardstick coasters for the sale (you can see them HERE), I had a little design brainstorm I had to try out.

Now why would THAT topic be important…

I wouldn’t know. :)

Chunks of reclaimed wood got hit with a little craft paint and Miss Mustard Seed Furniture wax.

Fun note of interest… see those brass stencils? While at Lucketts Spring Market last year, Marian (Miss Mustard Seed) handed them to me and said, “I’d like you to have these. I’ve had them forever and have never done anything with them. I’d like to see what you do…”

I honestly didn’t know what they were until I spotted them on eBay as ‘rare brass stencils’ just the other day! Ohhh, I thought they were channel letters or something! So when I was dreaming up what I wanted on these coasters, I knew they’d be the PERFECT scale.

There you go Marian, I used the stencils as STENCILS! Brilliant, I know…

Aren’t they cute? They look like little chunks of cut up old signs. And you KNOW that’s my deal…

But they needed one more tiny detail to make them more Funky Junk like…

Rusty screws and washers!

Whew… I can sleep good tonight. :)

Now, these ain’t no sissy coasters… I grabbed the largest Starbucks 10 gallon sized mug I had to test it out.

Yep! Lotsa room! PASS.

Now, dainty teacups are welcome too of course…

But I’ll admit, I had serious coffee drinker junkers in mind for these beefcake reclaimed wood coasters.

Someone’s gotta have your ‘number’ after all…

  1. What a great idea, and a little coffee or tea stain will make them look even better. Great for the porch. Wish I could be at the sale I would snatch those up real quick and you know what else I would buy, unfortunately it’s a fer piece for me to travel. Thanks for sharing, that seems simple enough for even a simpleton like me to make.

  2. Now these are amazing, Donna! I love them, such a simple project and so useful. I love the addition of the rusty screws & washers, it’s so you. (yes, I’ve been away for quite a while, nice to see a post of yours again)
