Organize your tools on an enhanced pallet shelf

I cut myself a deal.

Whatever I’d put in my single car garage turned dream workshop, it would be:

#1. Unique.

#2. Super easy to make for others to copy.

#3. Hopefully, quite possibly free.

#4. Very me.

And I do believe I’ve achieved that with this one. Organize your tools on an enhanced pallet shelf… perfect for non builders!

It all started with a small pallet. I threw it up there in my original workshop reveal, but the more I looked at it, the more it looked like ‘just a pallet’. I wanted better, but still utilizing one. So here’s what I did…

Storage shelf

I indeed started with a small, not overly interesting pallet.

Next, a board and a little crate. They were screwed together…

… then mounted where desired. This created two instant shelves.

The location of the shelf was determined by the size of the mason jars that would ultimately hold screws.

Any good DIYer worth their weight will decorate before final completion anyway… it’s the law. 🙂

Sides:

I cut some beefier nicer pallet boards to size, then screwed them on top of the pallet sides. Instant pretty!

Clear bins:

I raided a plastic tool storage system for those clear drawers… what a fit!

Shelves:

Cutting two deeper boards to size, they were screwed onto the pallet frame in the middle and bottom.

This made all the diff in the world! Now we’re ready for tools!

Top:

I had a small little wooden counter I found on the curb that fit the top perfectly! And created the perfect depth for the palm sander storage. But any deeper board would do.

Accessories:

When using screws or other things, I’m always finding I like to dump the works out, so I can grab them easier. That’s what the odd sized platters, and containers are for. How perfect is that rusty old loaf pan?!

Jars:

I dug through my collection of wide mouthed mason jar lids, and picked all the rustiest ones. Because this was a special occasion. 😀

I’ll be numbering all the jars as soon as I land something to do so. Numbering them from smallest to largest helps me grab the right ones.

Bins:

And those plastic bins, raided from an old plastic tool organizer I had on hand fit PERFECTLY!

From the original pallet…

… to the pallet on DIY steroids! 🙂 With still room for a shelf if desired above those drills… hmmm… maybe…

Dream Box Building Challenge #19

Isn’t it great that ‘cheat building’ exists for ‘us non builders?’

Be careful… it could make a real builder out of you yet. 🙂

What can you cheat build to get those tools warmed up?

Here’s a few of my other ultimate cheat builds…

  1. Love it – the design is just beautiful. I’d steal it from you in a heartbeat if I was nearby. ; ) Then I’d paint it aqua.

  2. I work across the street from a stone shop and they’re always trying to find ways to get rid of pallets, so I pretty much have access to unlimited amounts of pallets. I’ve been trying to figure what I could do with one if I were to get it, and now you’ve given me a great plan to use it, or two. I plan to use one for tools and another for plants. Thanks for the idea and inspiration.

    One Perfect Love

  3. I thought the before picture was a cool idea but you turned into amazing! I like the idea of using it for plants from one of your comments.

  4. I love what you do. Regarding the little garden shed: I am having a difficult time in trying to figure out the size. It looks like you might not be able to stand up straight in it, but I’m not sure. Just curious…it’s been on my mind for a long time, so I thought I would ask. Thank you!

I think you’ve inspired me to finally have a crack at making my own piece of pallet furniture. Finally!
Thanks for giving me the boost I needed 😀
