Shiplap-styled farmhouse BAKERY kitchen sign
I dream of a farmhouse kitchen, filled with the heavenly scent of fresh, homemade baking. It reminds me of my Grandma’s house. She made homemade bread nearly every single day. Best stuff ever.
My mom was an avid baker too! She’d make something special every single Saturday night, usually her delicious crumb cake. Great memory!
So… what happened to me?
I guess I’d just rather make decor for it than actually do it… so I created a BAKERY sign that can help me pretend I’m the best baker in the world! (2nd to my Grandma and mom of course…)
This cute Bakery sign is so easy to make, thanks to a few scrap wood planks, and a Bakery stencil!
Bakery is a farmhouse-styled stencil that is bold on message, with charming subtext for a more descriptive twist. But there’s more to it than just one stencil…
It was designed to mix and match with the LUNCH stencil (sold separately), creating 6+ different design options! How fun is that? I love adding more value to these designs!
So… with Christmas over, I was needing a replacement for the hot cocoa tray I had hanging here over Christmas.
I think during winter, we ought to be stocking our pantries with delicious home baked goods while the snow is blowing.
No snow… no baking here though. But hey, I can pretend like the best of them. 🙂
So… let’s make this fun BAKERY sign, rustic farmhouse shiplap style!

Supplies I used:
.
4 fence planks (mine were approx 4″ x 36″)
Black acrylic craft paint
S hooks to hang mugs
How-to create the Bakery sign:
.
1. Lay out boards to get a feel for your design. Cut length as desired. Coat with paint if desired.
* wood had been pressure washed, sanded, and repainted prior: I just added a fresh coat of white to brighten the planks up a little.
2. Arrange the boards with small gaps, then stencil.
3. Attach boards directly to wall with screws.
* If you wish to hang S hooks like I have, install a spacer behind your sign boards or attach some board and batten styled planks to the wall prior, so when you hang the sign, there’s a space for S hooks.
4. Decorate!
How to stencil:
.
- Load stencil brush with paint, then remove most paint to create a dry-to-the-touch tip.
- Stencil by tapping brush on the stencil, leaving the desired finish.

With that spankin’ new Bakery sign boasting that I actually bake, I needed to prep the kitchen for that!
So I warmed up the kitchen a bit with a vintage crock holding wooden spoons and a little vintage scale holding an ironstone bowl filled with course sea salt.
The right side of the counter lost the red bench coffee station, but gained a cute crate for added space instead!
A rustic vintage crate created a perfect shelf and space extension to this little coffee station area. And looks so rustically good with that Bakery sign!
This little crate is my FAV! I love using crates or benches in this area to create more coffee station space.

I love this sign and where you placed it. I immediately pinned it, determined to make one for my own kitchen. I just went in to make some tea and I noticed my stove – my range has the knobs on a raised panel at the back! No room for your great sign. 🙁

Hey Denise! My sign board is fairly deep, so it’s my bet if you measure the stencil, you may have room on a smaller board!
Your kitchen would be beautiful painted white. Yes, bottom half left wood finish. I had a white kitchen with butcher block countertops, the cabinets were mohogany painted white. I really miss my white kitchen. White cabinets look beautiful next to dark granite. Go for it!
So, Weird question, what are your floors in your kitchen?? We’re building our house in a few months, and i love your cabinets and the dark counters, but the flooring has made stumped!
Hi Jessica! I have the same hardwood floors in my kitchen as in the rest of my home. They were purchased prefinished from Costco several years ago. I really love the streamlined look, and they function very well!

How easy is it to clean the shiplap when the boards are grease stained?

I just wipe them down from time to time. If you were to seal them with a top coat of some sort, that would make it even easier. One I really love these days is Fusion Mineral Paint’s Tough Coat. No odour and water based! Brilliant stuff.

Hi Sharon! I create to inspire others to also create. I do sell the stencils however do not sell ready made items. If you search any social media with #oldsignstencils you will find plenty that create with my stencils that sell. You can also check with any Fusion Mineral Paint merchant to see if they may make you one!

It’s laminate which was purchased from a local kitchen company in BC, Canada. Most big box stores stock something very similar! Sorry but the name of the design has long bypassed my memory… but it does have a pretty good looking granite look!
