Make this 5 minute garbage can birdbath
If you desire a birdbath in your garden, don’t overlook an old galvanized garbage can. It makes quite the quaint little backyard feature, true rusty junk style!
A garbage can is a decent height, so there’s still some elevation to the birdbath.
Here’s the riveting how-to:
Ready? Grab a coffee, this is another long wordy one!

How-to:
.
1. Start with an old school galvanized garbage can with a lid.
2. Clean the lid well, and coat it with something food-safe if there’s rust.
3. Flip the lid upside down.
4. Fill with water.
5. Throw in a few flowers and enjoy positioning your new galvanized bird bath wherever you desire!
* please note, investigate what your garbage can is made of. If it’s zinc, it may be best to seal the lid with something. Zinc may be toxic to animals.
The birdbath in the yard
.
Isn’t it cute tucked inside the flowerbeds? Wherever it was placed, it looked perfect!
And it sure is an easy keeper too! No need to keep painting this beauty! Give it a good wash every spring and it should look great all year long.
Frequent cleaning of the lid is a good idea though.
And not only do birds appear to enjoy it…
… kittens do too!
Teddy my cat loves to wander in the yard while I putz around.
And this little 5 minute garbage can birdbath appears to not only hydrate birds, your pets get to take advantage of it too!
So cute! I think I’d like a garbage can birdbath in my front yard now!
Just as soon as I land another garbage can and lid that is.
These are harder to come by these days, so if you land one, hang on to it tight!
And I think Jenna likes it too. 🙂

That’s hilarious! I loved the micro tutorial! Thanks for the inspiration and the ability to do something that takes less than 60 seconds and still has the “wow.”

Clever. Even an old pot saucer would with the pot turned upside down and the saucer on top. Thanks for sharing.
Okay Donna, you just can’t get any better than this!! Thrifty and 5 minutes is always good in my book. Hop on over and share it at my Nifty Thrifty party.
Blessings,
Linda
What a great idea!!
I’m sure you gals could make your garbage can bird bath (did I really say that?!) even prettier! It’s as sturdy as a rock with gardening storage to boot! (heehee!)
love simple….my Dad used an old garbage lid,he cut a hole in the top because it had lost its handle….and with some large washers…if I remember correctly used it on a pole that had a bird feeder the squirrels would try to get all the bird feed,so this kept them from being able to run up the wood pole when they hit the metal with nothing to crap on to..plus it caught water at the birds height…No over hanging trees for the squirrel to jump to them…..
As always…love it!!!

I had a traditional, pottery bird bath and my all time, favorite, beloved cat, Ernie, would stand on his hind legs and drink out of it for birdy flavored water. So stinkin’ cute, loved that cat.
Brilliant! LOVE this!

Ahhhhh, sweet Jenna always managed to show up in the pics!
Donna back in the 70’s my daddy took a garbage can lid and made a mold for the bottom base and covered it in concrete. It made the best birdbath which the squirrels loved. It still stands today. Daddy was into recycling things way back then. That’s where I got my junk genes from, him. LOL. I like your quick birdbath and it works good too!
Absolutely genius….industrial chic bird bath… now I have to find an old garbage can!
love it! i use mine as pool towel storage, keeps the towels warm too. but i’m liking the birdbath idea too.
Love it! It’s been so dry around here our bird bath has turned into a giant spa!

Great idea! My first birdbath was a garbage can lid. Low to the ground, it attracted brown thrashers, which are rarely seen at tall birdbaths. The only way it can be better is if you can rig a dripping faucet or hose so birds hear the sound of water and it stays fresh.
love it wher do i get the lid
What a great idea!
Read it, did it and now I am waiting for the birds.
There was no coffee included, I did it during cooking our meal ;- )))
Thanks!
