How to arrange and dry hydrangeas inside a dresser!
This dried hydrangea stuffed dresser came about quite by accident today.
My friend Torrey had a bunch of stuff to give away on the curb and notified me to come on over and pick over it.
On my way out, I decided to get rid of this dresser that was in my way. So my friend and neighbour Corinne helped me carry it down the road towards Torrey’s place… when I stopped in my tracks!
My other friend and neighbour Janette had an amazing hydrangea bush that was bursting at the seams with hydrangea blooms ready to be picked! Hmmm…
After asking what her plans were with her bush, turns out she didn’t want the blooms and had plans to prune them away anyway!
Say no more! They were mine! And that funky little dresser came right back home with me. Because I suddenly had big plans for it, thanks to all these hydrangea branches!
But this time, outside…

How to arrange and dry hydrangeas
inside a dresser!
Tadaaa! Hydrangea arranging at its best!
Here’s how I did it!
How to dry hydrangeas inside a dresser:
.
- Harvest hydrangea branches once the flowers start to turn slightly crispy. They dry best at this time.
- Place some containers of water inside the dresser drawers where you can.
- Cut the hydrangea branches as long as possible.
- Stick fresher stems in the water, then fill in with the crispier stems that can’t reach water.
Aren’t those fall hydrangeas spectacular? I adore how fall hydrangeas turn different tones during the fall!
Using buckets for added height
.
Some galvanized buckets were stacked on top of the dresser, then filled with hydrangea stems too to give the hydrangea display more height.
It’s a little crazy in a good way, isn’t it?
It’s as if the hydrangea blooms are their very own waterfall of petals.
If you were watching my Instagram updates over the weekend on FJI Facebook, you would have already sighted two cool license plates. And they were perfect for this vignette.
Spool side table

They’re dressing up a little wooden vintage spool I landed a few days ago, which can easily be moved aside when it’s coffee time.
Good idea! Later!
I have a coffee date with a couple of girly license plates…
This dresser filled with hydrangeas is quite the visual, is it not?! Think you’ll give one a go?

The hydrangea’s in B.C. are breathtaking – noticed that the last time I was there!
What a beautiful display Donna!
these pics are fantastic! I LOOOOVE Hydrangeas! so beautiful!
Gorgeous! Just gorgeous! I need to cut mine and get them drying!
Very pretty!
For a cool effect, you can give the flowers a light coat of gold spray paint (doesn’t have to cover – but you can if you want) and then a coat of matching glitter paint – Beautiful for the holiday season ;o)
The ones without water should dry well too. I’ve only had a couple shrivel on me – most likely picked too soon…
So pretty. Hydrangeas are beautiful too. Thanks for sharing.

A ridiculously HUGE pile of hydrangeas is a great problem to have 😉 Love the effect of them spilling out. So utterly charming. That pink hued license plate is to die for!! Enjoy your girly coffee spot.

So gorgeous, I didn’t know that you could dry hydrangeas, they look so lovely.
Wowzers!! Absolutely stunning. I think the heat in my State did most of our plants in, so I am especially enjoying your photos. Linda S. in NE
That’s so beautiful – I wish I had some hydrangeas, I ordered baby bare root ones last fall and they are starting to get a few leaves, but it will be years before I get even 1/4 of those blooms I’m sure (it’s not easy to get a species to grow in the high desert where I live I guess). Everyone should count your hydrangea blessings! I’m just hoping mine will live.
so vibrant and beautiful!
And those all came from her plant? Wow.
would you come to NY and decorate my exterior?? it’s really not that far from Canada :):)♥ loves to you Donna
Love the “bouquet” of hydrangeas in the dresser drawers! They will dry just fine in place. blessings, k
