Welcome to Lanai!
Lanai is a wonderful quaint one-town island easily accessible by ferry from Maui.
All the beautiful plantation-style buildings circle around a park in the inner centre of the island.
The main beach and harbour are approximately a 20 minute drive from town. This is the same beach Sweetheart Rock is also located.
How to get to Lanai
Lanai is easily accessible by a 45 minute ferry from Lahaina, Maui.
I recommend a morning ferry when the water is still calm.
A shuttle service arrives at each ferry landing, and can take you anywhere you wish for $10! Best to reserve your spot ahead of time in case they fill up.
.
Transportation:
You can get around Lanai by jeep rental or shuttle service.
While you can rent jeeps, you cannot purchase vehicle insurance on this island.
You can even use the shuttle service to take island tours, which I did for Garden of the Gods in the picture above.

Accommodations:
While Lanai has hotels and other lavish means of staying, it’s all very high end / high-priced. A VRBO listing may be a more affordable approach.
I stayed for 3 nights at Hotel Lanai before they renovated. It’s now even pricier.

The current biggest attraction on Lanai is their own cat sanctuary, housing 600+ cats! I suggest pack a lunch, bring your beverages, cat treats, a towel to sit on and stay the day. There’s plenty of shade and it’s a lovely spot to take in.
This was my sole reason for going which can easily be done in a day. I just decided to add 3 nights so I could take in the entire island.
