The making of a music video set – Take 1

I had a rare and wonderful opportunity knock on my door.

Breanne Jansen in BC Canada, being extremely passionate about music, is in her first year of Vancouver Film School. She’s written approx 20 songs so far, however as part of her class, she chose to produce this music video of a single inspired by a real life event.

It appears that she loved my decorating style and wanted to know if I’d do the stage setup for her video. How cool!

So we met up and picked out some cool stuff from the barns off her property, but I knew a few accessories from my own home would polish things off. ย So on the day of the shoot, I emptied my own house and set off.

We decided on a very rustic setting in an open field. The team helped lug all these things across the road and I started to stage. Everything just started to snap together like a puzzle. Layer upon layer of rustic relics, brought to life with the addition of flowers had the set looking pretty cool!

Staging for yourself makes you question if you’re doing it ‘right’. But when you’re in front of a group, you receive immediate feedback which was the coolest thing! I loved working ‘live’.

I did bring my camera, however I was able to put it down this round and just do my thing.

Pro photographer Ashely from Dragonflight Photography was totally on it. She got what I was after and enthusiastically caught it her way. I cannot wait to see what her eye saw! This will be the first time my work has been captured by a pro.

Fancy Feat did the video production, which is also part of Breanna’s gig. I loved watching them work.

But we didn’t have the greatest of weather… check out my knees. ๐Ÿ™‚

Luckily the sun came back out again and we were good as gold and wrapped up!

So, I’m not going to give away a thing this round. Ashley’s photography will make the stills shine. I haven’t even seen them so I’m stoked!

I lied. The photos came through right after this post went live… can I just say WOW?! Here’s a few…

Isn’t she just beautiful? Wait till you hear her sing.

Part 2 is on Wednesday. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Great job! That is so cool!! I can hardly wait to see more photos, the video, the whole shooting match!! Once again congratulations!!

  2. Okaaaay…this is creeping me out…cos I’d just asked my son if he was gonna do a music video for his songs anytime soon. and i was wondering if anything i had (read that as junk) could be used in it. hmmm…love the pics!

  3. What a fantastic opportunity!!! The photography is outstanding and your set dressing so properly primitive. You had more snow in that brief clip than we have had in fourteen months! Can’t wait for the rest of the story.
