3000 Followers Event – All about ME! (link party)

Who I am ~

I’m a junk lovin’ sole parent pet lover artist type kinda gal that loves to create!

I’ve always been artistic but the real fun began when I started my own biz 17 years ago, running my own sign and graphics company. But the blogging world has indeed brought a fresh passion into the mix.

How I got to where I am today comes with it’s own story you can read about HERE. Be prepared. It’s LONG. πŸ™‚

“I don’t mind acting abit nutty. I think it keeps us young. :)”

I love the simple things in life and shy away from the complicated.

I’m rather outspoken, but in a kind way. I just want the best for those around me.

I’m a leader type personality, however can play nice with others too.

I own where I am in life.Β

I LOVE traveling and camping but I also love coming home.

I talk or sing to myself while I work. It pushes me through boredom as well as keeps me upbeat. And yes… I get caught all the time. πŸ™‚

I hate asking for help but I like to help others.

Being a tad co-dependent gets me into a bit of trouble, but I’m working on hearing my own voice and needs. It takes practice!

Β Β

(this blog header for my off topic blog says it all)

Β In a nutshell, I love being a mom. I love my 2 cats and 1 dog. My friends are tight, and my family near. My son and I are building a wonderful life together after many hurdles, and I’m pleased to say, no matter what the weather is, it’s always a sunny day over here. I honestly get up every day looking forward to what’s in store. It’s like a brand new start each day. Erase the mistakes of the past and get on with it!

Yeah, I’m generally that upbeat unless I’m in pain or my progressive reading glasses give me grief…

Where I live ~

On the WetCoast, located in BC Canada. It rains alot but the payback is all the greenery around us. It’s gorgeous out here every which way you turn.

We live in a one-3-way-stop kinda town where everyone knows everyone. They’re the type that care about you so I wouldn’t have it any other way. The day I moved in, Janette brought over brownies hot out of the oven. With boxes stacked to the ceiling, feeling exhausted and uneasy about the move, that kind gesture right there told me everything would be just fine. And I was right. I’d like to do a post about where I live sometime. I have so many stories…

And my tight knit community even accepst my circus high wire laundry ways…

What I love about my home ~

#1 – that it’s ours. (my son’s and mine) That knowledge just feels so BIG. We own the front doorstep right down to the squeaky floorboards. I’m VERY proud and grateful.

The new roof goes on with hero Vic helping.

#2 – that it’s finally SOUND. It needed alot of work when I first moved in. I was very blessed to have alot of help with that step, saving YEARS of payments off my life. I’m truly blessed beyond measure. (the reno blog is HERE)

The woodshed in the backyard.

Β #3 – making it ours. After the house was fixed up, the next step was to personalize it. So the decorating and creating began. These days, this funky home is truly our sanctuary in every way possible.

My favorite room is ~

The blogging headquarters.Β  It doesn’t hurt that my new computer is kind to me as well. πŸ™‚

But what I love about this area the most is that it’s so uniquely me in every way. I created a very funky desk to simulate where my mind takes me when I blog. The random rustic boards, big metal bolts, eclectic wall unit… my surroundings inspire me big time.

And I love the fact that the blogging area is central to the entire house. (in my open floor plan diningroom) I don’t miss a beat with what goes on around me. When inspiration hits, I like to run to the computer and start a quick draft so I don’t forget my idea. How many can actually say they can cook, watch a show AND help your kiddo do homework while you build a post?!? πŸ™‚

My favorite thing to do DIY wise is ~

Wooden gate screens

I actually have two. Creating AND staging my creation. Taking the junkiest of junk and creating something amazing out of it, then staging it just so really rusts my bucket!

The day I put these screens up, I honestly stood back and thought.. “Holey CRAP. I MADE those! And they aren’t falling over!” I still feel that way with everything I make because quite honestly, building stuff is still fairly new to me. Building = LOVE.

I wish I knew how to ~

… build anything inside my head.Β  Wouldn’t that be AMAZING? Welding and higher building skills are high on my list of learn-to’s. I Even knowing how to mount things properly.I also am starting to visualize frameworks of this which is what creations are all about to start with. I totally have to get over my fear of my table saw to move on. I’m getting there. πŸ™‚

Something you may not know about me is ~

I don’t really enjoy cooking. 3 hours in a kitchen a day totally robs my creative time. πŸ™‚ I use to love it, but when it became all about how quick can I pull it off, I lost interest. But I DO love my KITCHEN… and I do like GOOD food.

Why I love to blog ~

What’s not to love? Blogging provides an outlet to show my creative side with those that get me. I can’t think of any other place that could possibly offer this much encouragement!

It also satisfies the writing craving that hits. Why, I’m a published writer everytime IΒ  create a post! πŸ™‚

Oh.. and then there’s the photography! I love looking through a lens of a camera, then building a story or tutorialΒ  around the photo shoot. I enjoy that part just as much as creating.

____________

I honestly don’t know what tomorrow will bring from all this blogging and documenting. But I look forward to finding out.Β  Thanks for continuing to find interest in my blog. I appreciate you!

  1. Loved this post!! Enjoyed getting to know you better. I totally want to learn to weld myself! That would rock my world!! Creating and staging is top 1 and 2 in my life as well!
    Hugs
    SueAnn

  2. Thanks for letting us into the world of Donna! Nice to know all about the one who always lets us know all about everything she does. I’m with you in the kitchen department – can’t wait to get out of there – lol. Your talents never cease to amaze me : )

  3. I REALLY want to start my own blog. Would you recommend a book to help me?

Also, one of my fears of starting a blog is putting my personal stuff out there…What if a crazy person wants to start stalking me or something? Do you ever worry about this?

  4. I totally need to do a post on how I reach that clothesline! πŸ™‚ The line comes off my 2nd floor patio and is attached to a pole in the corner of the yard.

#11 – sometimes I do. I went into the local deli yesterday and the gal at the counter said someone came in and out of the blue said, “Have you ever seen funkyjunkinterors.blogspot.com? I didn’t know she lived here!”

While that made me feel WOW, it also left me feeling very vulnerable. However it’s no different than to give out my biz cards for my business. 99.9% of my clientelle are men. Would you believe I won’t give out my card to ‘just anyone?’ πŸ™‚

But what I have to keep reminding myself is, we’re gathering a ‘lovely’ audience base. I’ve been sighted in public and any that recognize me have been of the absolute nicest variety. So, just know, we are attracting a like minded audience first and foremost with what we do.

I’m just careful on some things I give out online. That’s only being realistically cautious. None of my photos have my house number or license plate exposed. KWIM?

About starting a blog… I recommend to go to blogger and JUST DO IT. Then google what you wish to know. I’ve written lots of blog tips (see sidebar) but I googled everything I wanted to know. I have no idea if there’s a book out there with this stuff. But through google, you’ll find LOADS of self help blogs set up to help newbies.

  5. Phew! I loved this! Now I don’t know if I shoud love you, or hate you, be your best friend, or BE you! (don’t worry, I’m not a psyco, and I will not be jealous and hate you). lol
Now I have to go contemplate what I would write in my entry… hmmmmmm…

  6. This is a great post. Loved reading more about you…………………………but still would like to see a video of “A Day in the Life of Donna”. πŸ™‚

Learning to build things is the best thing you can do for yourself when you’re creative. I’ve taught myself how to use so many tools over the years in addition to what I learned from the men in my family. It is the most freeing thing I’ve ever done. Knowing you can do something yourself and not have to call in help is so satisfying.
And then standing back and looking at what you’ve created from a pile of wood and a few supplies – well, there’s just no other feeling like it for me!

I can’t wait to see where all of your newfound skills take you. Where ever it is, I just know it will be big. πŸ™‚

  7. Amazing is what comes to my mind!! You are truly a great inspiration to us all! I love your blogging room, table and the screen is so awesome!!! I have always wanted to visit BC, Canada, it looks like such a beautiful place and now that you described it like you did with all the great people, I KNOW I want to visit!

I LOVE that you have a bunch of folks/friends in your life who will assist you when things are out of your tool/skill range!

I LOVE that you build things and I get to drool all over my computer!

I LOVE that your blog keeps growing – because I know what that means for your bright future!!!

I LOVE the risks you take in your creative expressions in your home – because they INSPIRE ME THROUGH THE ROOF!!! You are my DECORATING/CREATIVE/ARTIST HERO!

I ADORE the backdrop behind your home! So does my husband!!!! It has inspired US immensely!!!!

I LOVE that you are funny and serious and caring and honest!
And that you don’t think I’m a total weirdo. But you actually “get me”, too!!!!

And I LOVE that you support the folks here and share who we are, even if we only have 46 followers because we hardly ever blog!!! (u r zee best!)

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all you put out, give out, share, encourage and the videos are a bomb!!!!!!! Love them!!!

  9. Hey Donna,
What a great post! I enjoyed learning more about you. I have no doubt that you WILL know how to weld before long… you can do anything you set your mind to!

And don’t you dare paint anything white (I know you wouldn’t – LOL)… I have to see your color inspiration on Monday! πŸ˜‰

    ~ Jo

  10. Kolein, I’ll only make you apologize if your comments are short. You’re good to go! πŸ™‚ Love you too!

Jo, I’m embarrassed to admit my colour I’m showing on Monday is VERY subtle. I tried the BAM kind and it scared me. LOL At least I tried! Right?

Thanks for all your kind comments, all.

    Donna

  11. Donna, I could be here all day not only reading all your stuff but following link after link after… so I linked it all up on my Inspiration Page and can come back again and again. (So NEVER take this down.)
Back in the day you and I had a lot in common, but my path took a very different turn. So stay your course! Be true to yourself and keep living your dreams.
I plan to read every link up for this party.
I also read every comment you get because you have the best readers and I learn so much from them as well.

Not much for color challenge from me, this time, but I will be here.

  12. That woodshed is a dream. I love it! I imagine it could also make an excellent playhouse, but perhaps that is my inner 8 year old…. Thanks for great pictures and a new site to follow!
