Yep…just another day in a perfect home. You know us decorators… we always have it together…
So this picture above? It’s placed here so feeds that display a first picture don’t scare readers away.
Yes. Decorator types live in these perfect, magazine worthy homes. Aren’t we fortunate?
We even create names for our beloved rooms. Much like a challenge on Survivor, this one’s called “Where’s the laundry soap?”
Maybe it’s in that creatively placed, repurposed for holding who knows what hat.
Just don’t tell my son, ok?
I just did some digging and I found a ‘reveal’ way back of this room as is. A reveal. HERE. Yellow pictures and all. Be careful… that link is very dusty! But at least the room was clean back then. Whatever happened?
I know exactly what happened. It just became a dumping ground. No other excuse required.
Anyway, this room? It has it all. It’s as dark as a cave, there’s barely any room to walk, plus it’s the only place left for any big sign boards. It’s even graced with exposed wires for that industrial effect.
I love adventurous trails, don’t you? Let’s trip a little more…
Deeeeeeeep taupe. So very… taupe.
The walls resemble being covered in a chocolate milkshake.
Who picked that colour?!
Oh… I did.
This here is my laundry drying rack. When you’ve owned a sign company for as long as I have, you use signs.
Further enhanced by a shock of colour in the background, so it captures well on screen. In case you wish to pin it. Pinterest is getting picky now about quality images, so pin away!
I truly have no business starting yet another room renovation. BUT… just like anatomy, one thing leads to another.
I had to gut the laundry room to make way for the freezer (see it to the right! it’s in!) that came from the workshop.
But what stepped up the pace was, a project is in the works, and I wanted it in the laundry room. That wasn’t done.
But the laundry room may be too dark to capture the project, so I’m also freshening up the walls in the photo studio too.
No mayhem here… none at all.
I’m actually kinda giddy! With the workshop somewhat productive with a painting table and everything, it’s really helped make DIY tasks much more of a joy.
It’s also a neat feeling to be reaching this area of the house. I’ve lived with the chocolate milkshake laundry room for 8 years.. it’s time to change it to vanilla, with a touch of.. hmm… I’ll let you know when I figure out what that other colour’s flavour is.
Truth be told, this room was littered with wallpaper and a horrible vinyl floor when I moved in. I put down the tile and did the walls right after the washer and dryer blew and I needed a new set.
Deadline driven. Again.
So… we’ll call this one Laundryroom 2014.
And I can’t wait to fill it up with junk!
GOOD junk that is. 🙂
Dream Box Building Challenge #23
I have no idea what today’s challenge is. Maybe avoid chocolate milkshaked laundry rooms?
Works for me!

I can so relate. Any space can soon become consumed with junk. Being an avid junker/artist/woodworker…..well you understand. I have a sign in my studio that says “Creative People are Rarely Neat”. I hung it in there so I would’t have to explain the condition of the room……Guess I should put one in every room of the house. Hmmmmm….
“Creative People are Rarely Neat.” Love it! Thank you Mary! I need three signs – one for my laundry room, one for the garage, one for my computer room, and one for my kitchen. Less apologizing when company drops in.
I think I need that sign by the road… sometimes my outside looks like this too!
I have been following ‘Funky Junk’ for well over a year and this just deserved a comment. I had to LOL when I saw Laundry Room 2014! It makes me want to stand there and iron for at least a couple hours!!! The floor tiles look quite nice and love the color of the washer/dryer combo. Can’t wait to see the end result of this project.
DaisyDay, you are welcome to come and iron for hours no problem! The ironing board is hiding behind that big sign. Lemme know if you need a hand finding it… 😀
Keep up the great work! You are truly an inspiration! Thanks for your output of pure energy!
Can’t wait to see what you come up with. It’s going to be epic whatever it is!
Aww Brian, you are my hero! Maybe if I had about 5 of your fancy hampers it wouldn’t look like this! 🙂
Or maybe one BIG hamper!
Cant wait to see the makeover!
Oh,Donna, you just made my day! I’ve been enjoying your blog for so long. This post just made me smile and couldn’t have come at a better time. I have four days off from work and have promised myself to tackle my laundry room and garage. Our laundry has become a storage area for many things including storage for all the things two of our college age children can’t have at school with them. Yes, I have raised some Junkers myself! Thanks for keeping it real. I love all your ideas and can’t wait to see what you do with the laundry room. Have a great day.
I can’t wait to see what you do here. Don’t feel bad, my laundry room looks pretty similar right now. And mine isn’t even as big as yours so it’s REALLY crammed with stuff. That room is way down on my list since so many others need help but I’ll get to it one day!

are u kidding! ur laundry room looks great in comparison to mine. soory no pics. at least u have a room to call ur own. mine is in the garage!! sharing space with a 5yrs bikes and such and all the tools I have bought over the years, most of which I don’t know how to use. like u, I am a tool junkie. let me loose in home depot and its like shopping for designer shoes. I go nuts. I rationalize like this; I cant have too many bits, I don’t have enough drills, one more wont kill me. and on and on. I love ur site by the way. u make my day every day. thank u for that. in such a chaotic world we live in its a breath of fresh air!!
Aww thanks! Not sure I offered you fresh air today though… 🙂
Oh Donna – LOL! Everyone can relate to your laundry room. Mine currently has a dog crate shoved in it with the washer and dryer! LOL! My junk just seems to swirl from one room to the next. Can’t wait to see your new laundry room reveal!
Swirl is an excellent term. Sounds much better than heap!
Oh, so you’re just like the rest of us?
By the way, I use feedly and I am getting the same photo every time you post. It’s the two part photo, with the coffee clamp lamp on the right.
Painfully human. No worries there.
Thanks for the heads up on Feedly! My guru just got a nice shiny new email from me… hope it gets fixed soon!
Oh Donna……..
Hahahahhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!! I am just rolling!!!!
You are so REAL!!!!!!! LUUVE YOU!
HAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, TEARS IN MY EYES! heeeeeee heeee heee!!!!
THAT’S what I need to do… cry more so I don’t see the mess! Thank-you. I think… 🙂
I would love to have a laundry room that size. Mine is barely bigger than a small closet and has just as much stuff as yours has. Comparatively speaking. No signs. Can’t wait to see how you junk it!
The house before this one had the laundry room squeezed into the entry. THAT was interesting! I’ll take the ice cream cave with no issue! 🙂
Looks just like my laundry room!!!!!
Interesting! Maybe this is what they are suppose to look like all along. NOW I find out.. 🙂
Can’t wait to see what you do with it. It already looks better than mine.
Yes well, it took me a few days to be able to offer that first picture. Pretty slick isn’t it? Too bad it doesn’t match the rest!
I have a pile of “creativity”, too. Mine’s a bit smaller, and a little closer at hand. Mine isn’t hiding. It’s right at my elbows. I either have to use what’s there or put it away. Sometimes it’s awful being a grown-up. No one is there to make me clean my room.
I think that’s why doors were invented… they are so fun to close! 🙂
Can’t wait to see what color you choose for the walls of your laundry room. I love your red washer and dryer, I have a set like that only boring white (they were on sale). My laundry room is also where our 11 month old puppy sleeps, so the room is pretty empty because of her chewing.
Happy weekend!
Oh my, looks so familiar! I needed a good laugh, I hope I am laughing with you! Does the little sewing machine on top of the shelves work? Love it.
Your I wish my dungeon laundry room looked as good as your chocolate milkshake laundry room? LOL Can’t wait to see your makeover.
Umn, gee, your laundry room looks like my sewing room and my studio and … our front hallway also. Took bunch of stuff out of sewing room so I could clean it up so I could maybe do some sewing. It’s a very small room so any piles of “stuff” makes it even smaller. I store most of my sewing goodies in those plastic drawer carts. Those babies went from MT to KY to CO and they’re all full. Don’t dare try to move them as nowhere else to put them.
We live in a small mfg. single wide. It’s not much but it’s ours. Very expensive for real estate here, (Grand Junction, CO). Sure wish we had our wonderful garage in KY again and the house. We paid twice as much for this place and have half what we did in KY.
Good lucky to you on your laundry room redo.
Love your washer dryer. Our laundry appliances are in a closet on one side of our mud room.
Happy Weekend and Fall
I find your honesty absolutely refreshing! Who doesn’t have a “catch-all” room, but who wants to photograph it? You’ve managed to inject your sense of humor into a common problem your readers can easily relate to. I’m anxious to see your laundry room transformation.
