5 – pruning the great outdoors

I have a seasonal buddy, and his name is Walter.

Walter is flat out my hero. He calls ME when fall transpires, to check up on things outdoors.

I love reminders. I feel like someone is taking care of me for a change.

I also love big trucks. The end.

Whenever Walter asks if it’s time to come over, I don’t think he’s ever finished his question before I’m jumping up and down with pure joy to have real, professional help!

It’s a TREAT! And boy, do I appreciate it!

This is what Walter does oh so very well. He is a master at pruning the great outdoors, because it would take me years to do.

Who am I kidding? I could not produce 5% during my entire lifetime of what he does in a mere couple of hours. Just the way I like it.

We can do anything, but we can’t do everything, right?

What mess? This means progress!

Besides, I knew I’d have to snap this pic fast, because in a jiffy, it’s raked up and dumped into the back of his truck.

Yup. Walter cleans up after himself too!

Dear teen son, please take note…

Can you believe these are the same trees? I can’t! I love how he carves into them to refine each tree once again, long after they’ve grown together.

Drop dead gorgeous.

And so inspiring! I even went out and mowed the lawn today to match my pretty trees!

I also gave him total free rein on anything else he deemed needing his expertise. So he shaped a few shrubs.

But the most dramatic haircut is yet to come. Are you ready for this one?

I’m not sure what I think of this tree any longer, other than outta control. It grows like a weed overnight, and I can never clear the top sprouting branches! A little Whovillish isn’t it?

So Walter taught it a lesson.

Jaw drop. If this is my new map I am to follow over the next year, I am in trouble.

Until Walter returns again, of course!

I forgot to take a before of this area, but trust me, it’s much better now.

And he also removed this dead tree! When did that even die? No idea. I should get out more. Literally.

And more. So much more.

Everyone needs a Walter in their lives. It’s so very nice to treat yourself to some professional help!

Now to find a new, special friend that can wash tall windows… and maybe even paint the outside of the house.

I can see this hiring help habit getting a little out of hand… with my pleasure!

And just for the fun of it, I did a Periscope session today on my best purging tips! Too bad it got cut off… again. But again… WHATEVER.

Ah well. The important thing is, this place is slowly but surely starting to shape up. And I’m feeling saner for it. So I thought I’d sneak in an extra Crap to Clean today. Because I hope to have something more exciting for you by next Wednesday.

Wanna hire Walter? His info is in THIS post.

But please don’t overwork him. I need him to be in shape to prune that hippy tree again. Goodness…

Do you hire out for pruning?

And how are you doing with your own crap to clean progress? Will you have something to show us by next Wed?

  1. I gut – about two or three times a year now. Also I have a box that is always available for stuff to go. I call it the giveaway box. You and I are a lot alike. Proud of you and love your determination to get rid of the crap. Awesome! I Enjoyed the video and your trees look great.

  2. Your garden looks very good now! And OMG I love the windows in your house! They look amazing! You must have so much light in the rooms! I’m currently replacing my old widwows with those I’ve found at this site windows toronto and I really hope they’ll look as good as yours!

  3. If you will turn the phone sideways instead of straight up and down, we could see more. Love the idea of purging. I do it all the time.

  4. Wow! How great is that. My house is full of overgrown bushes and plants. We have talked to different landscapers but we are doing some of the starting work ourselves. This is great inspiration

  5. How am I doing with getting rid of my own crap? I’ll tell you when it finally cools off here. I am really sick of hot weather. If am out in it too long I get whoozy and unbalanced. Putting up with bossy hubs doesn’t help. He doesn’t want to do the work but wants to be boss, not happening dude. UGH
Been wanting to clean shed so he can work out there in winter, we have a propane heater to use. If he could work out in our pole barn in M winters he can work out there in this(CO winter).I used to do my sanding out in shed in MT. Believe me we had cold winters in MT. These people here are such babies.
Your yard is so pretty there, lots of green. In late summer/early Fall here it’s just brown. Your trees turned out so gorgeous, he’s a miracle worker.
Love your blog and your talents, your projects are such inspiration. Happy weekend

  6. Please, please tell me how you got your hedges to grow so tall, thick and developed into a gorgeous private fence? My’s are so thin and in need of help. I would love to have hedges like yours. Keep the person that trims them, because they do a wonderful job.

    • Hi Ivory, thank you! I have to believe it’s our good soil. We live on very fertile land. The hedge is fairly established as well.

The west coast also gets lots of moisture, so I have to believe that helps too.

I agree, Walter does an AMAZING job!
