Once upon a time I got asked if I’d take a few pictures for my church.
This was when I was still using a point and shoot. I knew my camera couldn’t handle the task at hand, so I put the scary offer on hold until I could afford to purchase a camera that could do the job.

Once purchased, that’s when I got REALLY scared. I needed to make good on a promise of course, but the real scary part was the task of taking pics during a church service… in session. In front of everyone. Yup… totally out of my comfort zone x 1 billion.
But I did it anyway. I was a wreck but I hid that part. See, I didn’t know how to work manual which is rather imperative for indoor shots, so I started shooting on Automatic. And started to panic because they weren’t turning out.
So I flicked the switch to manual and shot them anyway.
Up on stage and everything. So they kinda had to turn out after all that!
To my delight, the photos were turning out pretty ok, but it wasn’t due to a wealth of knowledge, lemme tell ya!
I guess they passed inspection because I’m now deemed one of the resident church photographers. Moving targets are so much different than stagnant projects. However the new challenge has been great fun!
Plus I get to hang out with a bunch of really cool people.
I most recently took photos of the church garage sale to raise money for the Mexico Missions trip,

And even the last Christmas concert. Up near the stage and everything. Again.
Guess what. It isn’t scary any more. 🙂

Your photo’s turned out great. Sometimes we just have to do things to overcome the things we are scared for. I was affraid of talking on the phone with strangers when i was young and took a job where i have to answer the phone all the time, just to overcome this.

Thanks for the nudge, Donna. I’ve been thinking about my big project and have come up with some options for getting my little painted furniture business going – heading over to the local antiques mall to talk about renting a space there. Step One done.

So Donna….I love your blog about that “scary” thing, but I have to admit, I was so sidetracked with the name of your church. I’m thinking….hmmmm….Alliance….I wonder. Did a search, and YES! You attend an Alliance Church, too! How cool! I have admired your blog, your posts, your thoughts, and your self discovery. Now I realize you attend the same denomination church as I. These photos are great, and you are right. Photographing moving objects is alot different than photographing something stationary. They look perfect.
Donna, I shared the scariest thing I have ever done–letting go. And while thgis may not be what you were looking for, for me it puts all of the other scary things in perspective.
