For those following me on Instagram stories, I KNOW you are waiting for this tour. And I’m finally delivering!

I needed a getaway. Quickly.

I scoured the internet for a condo in Maui first. Of course…

When that didn’t pan out with my yesterday timeframe, I decided to snoop around somewhere a little more local. And that’s when I browsed Cultus Lake, a mere 12 minutes from my place.

I’ve blogged about this area before when camping. However I haven’t been there lately.

I’ve checked out cabins or cottages for rent before, however nothing found ever inspired me enough to book it.

Until I found THIS ONE. (link to VRBO listing – cabin is located in Cultus Lake, British Columbia, Canada)

This beautiful waterfront cottage sits right in the midst of a gorgeous community of other cottages dotted along the edge of the lake.

Literally.

And while the lake was most certainly a big feature, it wasn’t the main one.

The cottage was.

Once I spotted the white rustic shiplap in the VRBO listings, topped with being right ON the lake, I was immediately sold, and was walking through this place 2 days later.

When you enter from the road side of the cottage, this spacious brick and shiplap infused entry greets you.

Which fit my bike perfectly, thank-you. It made me feel right at home.

The cottage is housed with two bikes, so if you’re travelling, you won’t be without. SUCH a nice addition! And honestly, a must in this area.

So come on in, up these short steps into the main part of the cottage.

Are ya feelin’ it yet?!

.

Yeah. Join the club.

At this point, I pretty much dropped to my knees and just stared.

The cottage frames the lake so perfectly, doesn’t it?

This lovely pipe and reclaimed wood table and rustic chairs warmed up the place perfectly.

As soon as I got around to closing my jaw (I don’t think it closed all 3 nights I stayed) and got off my knees, I opened up the door so I could hear the gentle lapping sounds of the water against the shore.

Spellbound.

When I came here, I needed straight out down time so very much, so I told myself I would not check social media, blog, nothing.

The moment I got there, that all hit the fan. I was instagramming like crazy in order to share how my heart was simply in overflow mode!

A view of the lake from every window!

.

By the 2nd day, I needed to release what I was feeling.

So I spun the table to face the lake, and wrote to my heart’s content in THIS post.

How could you not?!

I don’t remember ever staying in a place I’ve loved every square inch of. It one really did a number on me.

Every single inch was infused with daylight. It was a photographer’s dream.

And everything in white, including this quaint kitchen, simply embraced that.

My own woodsy kitchen cupboards came dangerously close to a white paint brush once I got home.

And the upper cabs removed for shelving.

So I quickly painted a white wall instead before I got into big trouble…

In a cottage filled with white, there it was, a special woodsy wall just for me I’m sure.

This cozy little spot came in handy one evening when it was a little too chilly to sit on the deck.

Candles flickering inside the fireplace provided the perfect ambiance to just sit and read a book.

I’m borrowing this one for home!

And then there’s those ceilings… goodness.

I have always adored vaulted ceilings so I certainly got my fill during this stay.

Up a few more stairs landed you into this sweet bedroom with pretty ceilings once again.

Watching a pre-recorded reno show or 3 on TV was such a nice way to finish the day off.

It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I had both windows open behind me while I slept and nothing woke me up.

All the quaint costal touches were lovely.

So, let’s head out to the deck!

If I wasn’t on my bike, I was on this outdoor sofa. It was so comfy I must have looked like I was glued to it. It was exactly what I needed. To just sit, stare, listen, watch, rest. The power of a lake I tell ya…

I also found the different moods of the lake fascinating. It changed every few minutes. Ranging from a sheet of glass, to rolling waves when a boat passed by, to suddenly choppy waters when the wind picked up.

I also closed the lake down each night long after everyone head indoors for the night.

One of my fav times of day was sitting here at night when the lights along the shore from other cottages cast these shimmery orange reflections on the black water. It was spectacular. It reminded me of being in New York at night.

(I never did share this newly uploaded New York video with you… check it out in THIS post)

There’s that mirror lake once again.

Could you imagine taking in your first cup of coffee each morning while gazing out at this?!

I did ask a lake resident if being in front of the lake stalled her productivity, as I had a hard time not staring at it all the time.

She vowed that it did. That you had to intentionally look away in order to get anything done.

How fascinating that this never gets old.

Watching water is much like a fire pit, there’s movement, always different, and always something to notice, see, hear, etc. Water movement was the very first thing I missed once I returned home as I sit on my outdoor patio frequently.

The local gal also mentioned the water traffic sounds were calming. The hum of a motor boat, the odd splash from a fish, the waves lapping against the rocks.

I would most definitely agree.

While I love my tropical ocean shores of Maui, there is nothing quite like a quiet, pristine lake!

I did some other touring near the lake, which I’ll share in another post soon too.

But I will admit, this dreamy white shiplapped lake cottage at Cultus Lake, BC was a total win I will NEVER forget!

  1. Hi Donna,

I love the beach but think I could love this cabin on the lake too. Very nicely decorated and your newest get away and close to home. What else could you ask for? Hope more places come available to you in the near future. Thank you for sharing.

    • I felt the same when I was there. While I would have loved a few swaying palm trees amongst a tropical breeze, I really adored how there were no waves on this lake. I think it even felt more decadent under cozy blankets! Strange but true!

But of course I would take either or. haha

  2. As I read your post, if I listened really carefully, I could almost hear the lake sounds! That oval window above the ceiling beams is to die for as well as the quaint vintage refrigerator. Ah, summer, cottages and lakes – the stuff dreams are made of!

  3. The mountains AND the lake are stunning! You work from home, so, why not live in a cottage by the lake! As long as it’s winterized!

    • I most certainly could! I’ve been on the lookout, even if i got a little getaway place.

However as it stands, cottages like these are about 3x my house price… so I will keep visiting I guess. haha

  4. Ohhhh Donna..this is exquisite! What a happy peaceful place! I absolutely love it. I am so pleased you found this beautiful awesome place to relax and just be! And it evidently is inspiring,in a lazy way! Nicely done! ??

  5. Amazing cabin inside and out- and the view!!!! I’m sure this won’t be your last visit! ❤️☺️

  6. Donna I am sobbing watching your video. The song is one we played at Mom’s bedside the week of her passing. I was raised during the summer months on Jackfish Lake near Edmonton so this flooded me with fond and cherished memories. I know very well how mesmerizing the lake and a campfire can be, the sound of boat motors or chainsaws off in the distance, the early morning air enjoyed with a cup of coffee, and the calm of the lake like glass around 7pm each night. Wouldn’t it be grand to have a place just like this lovely cottage on a lake for weekend (or full time) respite? It would be a dream come true!

  7. Ahhhh…this place is totally a slice of heaven. I’m just a little drive away, well maybe not so little but still do-able, in WA state in the US. Just what the dr. ordered!

  8. I think this one should be at the top of your list. All that white is so calming and relaxing Donna. You are so blessed to live in that part of the world where your eye never gets tired.

  9. Good morning Donna! I am late in responding to your wonderful post. The lakeside retreat appears to be created particularly just for you. Right up your alley. It is wonderful to be able to listen to the water and see the sights. Mother nature is a great healer and a balm to the soul. So glad you had the opportunity to go there. Thanks so much for sharing.

  10. What a lovely, peaceful, relaxing cabin on the lake. I love, both the inside and out. Thank you for allow us to visit, be it through this wonderful post
