DIY Salvaged Junk Projects 484

DIY Salvaged Junk Projects 484 - Barrel and seed bag planters, denim pillow, summer porch signs, plus! Up-cycled projects link party.

Welcome to DIY Salvaged Junk Projects 484

Every Friday, 7 PM through Wednesday 11 PM Pacific

Hey all! I’m back!

And that means the weekend parties are back!

And I hope that means your wonderful up-cycled projects will find their way back as well! 😀

As most of you know by now, I took a month’s hiatus from blog posting while I was vacationing in Hawaii. It honestly felt like 5 minutes, so I must have needed it.

Unplugging allowed me to take the time and dig deep for my ultimate dreaming and goal setting.

A sunset in Molokai, Hawaii

I wrote a pretty personal post HERE on the outcome of my stay. I also touch on how the timeframe smoothed things out, and share what I think my biggest hurdle was that needs addressing NOW. Which I’ve already been working on since home.

If you’re one that tends to never stop and always put everything else before yourself, you’ll get this read 100% and may even help you decide on a few action steps of your own.

Should we continue the DIY parties? Let’s chat!

And now for a question… there aren’t many blog parties out yonder any longer yet this one is still going. What are your thoughts on that?

As a blogger:

What makes this linkup valuable for you? Traffic? Exposure? Community? Or none of the above?

As a reader:

Do you find the mix of projects by others interesting or do you bypass these party posts?

.

What do you like most about this party? And least about it?

Any suggested changes? New ideas you’d like to see?

What about a themed linkup once a month instead of everything? (ie: ladder projects)

What about having the party on my Facebook page once a month?

Remain weekly? Or what about once a month or ?

Or… don’t mess with what works and keep it all the same?

.

Please share your thoughts on all this in comments below.

You may also email me direct if preferred at donna@funkyjunkinteriors.net

I’ll update you on the outcome at next week’s party with some decisions.

For those of you that have been busy creating all this time (I commend you…), I hereby invite you to link up what you’ve made from the past 4 weeks!

So here’s a few of your fab highlights to pretty things up around here from the past two parties 483 and 484…

I’ve collected and created with broken barrel parts before, but not like this! Such a creative and well-themed planter, isn’t it?!

Faux grain sack seed planter by Homeroad, featured on Funky Junk Interiors

If you’re a lover of grain sacks as myself, you’ll love this project. This did not start out as burlap or canvas although it looks like it does! There’s some great hacks in this tutorial.

Just because you got two kittens (I’m jealous btw…) it doesn’t mean you have to spend a bundle for cat equipment! Love the stock lumber and twine cat scratcher, among other DIY kitten friendly projects showcased in this blog post!

Upcycled woven denim throw pillow by Pillar Box Blue, featured on Funky Junk Interiors

What the what?! This woven denim pillow cover is EVERYTHING. I love the boho feel it gives off!

For those that have yet to pretty up those porches, take a few hints from this creative upcycled porch tour that’s all about signs! You’re talkin’ my language, Carlene.

Visit the post to see the entire porch while you drool over those burlap chair pads… NEED.

Stenciled berry crate by Fresh Vintage by Lisa S, featured on Funky Junk Interiors

This is a story of a thrift store tote that came to be the perfect gift for those hard to buy for Dads. Add a themed stencil and applicable goods inside and you’ll have one price efficient yet valuable gift. Click to the post and see the themed idea to tuck inside… lucky Dad indeed!

~ Blah blah linkup rules ~

1. UpcycledDIY home decor projects only please. Items for sale must be in tutorial form on your blog. NO FOOD NOR NEW CRAFTS please.

2. Linkups must be your own work, not another’s.

3. Only projects new to this link party please, to keep things fresh. Repeats may be deleted.

4. By linking up here, you’re cool with me featuring you on my blog,  Pinterest, Twitter, FJI Facebook with a link back to you, or its own new LINK WIDGET with no additional permission required.

5. No need to link back to the party! Would love it if you pinned the first gallery picture instead. Thank-you!

    • Thank-you for chiming in Vanessa! It’s simple but perhaps that’s part of what makes it special too. 😀

And I just noticed your broken shovel waterfall project you linked up. THAT IS SO EPIC!!!!

      • Thank you so much! I spent a month in my head on that one – wondering if it would just look stupid or actually work. I was giddy with success when I finally knuckled down on it.

I think your link-up is maybe a touch smaller than some but I see actual pageviews come from it. That doesn’t always happen with the larger link-ups. It also seems like yours is more ‘current’ projects rather than people dropping a link to a 3 year old post and leaving.

  1. hi donna! thank you for stopping by to visit today! so happy to “see” ya! <3
read your hawaii posts, and i totally understand how you feel! i am constantly trying to find balance too. i think life has its seasons, some seasons are for planting and some are for reflecting. neither of us are like content machine types, and we both need to always root in inspirations and passion. i know you will find the right answers when you feel happy and inspired! just remember that you are AMAZING!! xo

    • Awww Ananda, nice to see you too!

You are so right in the ‘content machine’ thing. If only there was a switch. This girl needs a reason for everything and that can be so challenging!

Like, just today I thought about having my son and his girlfriend over for a BBQ but I don’t have that nor a picnic table… guess what I’m going to see into building today! haha

      Whatever works…

  2. Donna
I appreciate you so much! I always look forward to your parties.
To answer your question- yes, I hope we can still hang out.
I don’t do facebook, but I do enjoy instagram. I understand it’s a lot of work for you….I know most of my blog traffic is from you.
You always leave the sweetest comments when we are featured!

Thank you so much for sharing my Dad’s gift of a stenciled crate.
    That was a nice suprise.
    xo Lisa S

    • I’m so glad you chimed in Lisa! I don’t really feel like how I’ve been doing the parties is a whole lot of work, it’s more an intentional thing to remember. And keeps me tapping keys, that is for sure! haha

So glad traffic comes your way due to the parties! I do love seeing what you and others bring over each weekend, it keeps me actively seeing what’s going on in the blog world as well!

      Thanks for being you!

    • Thanks for following along Claire! I enjoyed your comments while I was away! It really made me feel like my friends were right along with me! It’s nice when you travel alone.

And thanks for always creating such epic projects you share here! Your photography is always outstanding!

      • Thank you, Donna. That’s very kind of you to say about my photography as yours is awesome. I love that this link party is so niche and just Upcycled projects which makes it stand out from the rest. It’s a great place to come and see what the other Upcycled s have been up to.

  3. I love your party and enjoy linking up (even though I don’t have something to share every week). For a small blogger like me who doesn’t necessarily have a big following, it does bring some traffic my way. But, I know link parties are a lot of work and will understand if you change or do away with it. Either way, I appreciate you & what you do!

    • Good to know Virginia! I’m glad there’s some traffic your way.

I’m thinking if I implement a few interesting changes, they will be additions vs. actual change. Then there’s new fuel for me (ha!) and the same for the rest!

      My dreaming cap is on…

  4. Donna I personally love the party as it is right now. I enjoy coming to your blog on my big screen so I can take everything in. And once a week is fine with me. But I know how tiring hosting a link party can be so if you want to host it less often I understand.

    • Thanks Mary! As one that links up frequently, I’ll take your suggestion to heart!

As long as there is interest, I’ll host! I actually love connecting with other bloggers this way. I’d miss you all if you stopped!

  5. Thank you so much, Donna, for featuring my Barrel Stave Flower Pot Holder! I am definitely guilty of being one who tends to never stop and put everything ahead of myself and I know, especially at my age, I need to stop and smell the roses. I enjoyed reading your post and it put many things into perspective. Thank you for being so open and sharing your journey with us. xo

As for the party, I personally love it just the way it is. Having said that, I also know how much time and effort goes into hosting and totally understand if you want to cut it back. My two-cents is nay on hosting it on Facebook. Have a good weekend and happy trails!

    • Thanks for your opinion, Marie! Duly noted to keep it the same!

Sometimes there’s nothing broken to fix, right?! I think it’s the creative in me that seeks change to help ramp things up in some special way. But it’s not always needed!

  6. Hi Donna! I am new to the blogging world and I love these parties! I personally have yet to link up but my plans are to definitely do so! I have been successful by linking in other parties. I also love seeing all the creations and all the talented people! And the conversations are awesome as well. I have met a lot of fellow bloggers by link parties! I am also glad to see you were able to take a month off and relax. It surely does help. I take a few days here and there and it helps you come back refreshed and ready to go! Glad to be a part of your blog 🙂

    • Ohhh welcome Christina! I just checked out your blog… any of your projects would be welcomed to the party link up! I hope you don’t hesitate, and just go for it!

And thanks for your opinion! It’s great to see it’s still a desired thing!

  7. I love the link party just as it is. I’m inspired by the wonderful variety of projects so it would be a shame to limit the link up to just one theme. You know what they say… if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it 🙂

  8. Donna,
Love your parties just the way they are. I am not on FB or any other sites.

If you change then I will learn something new.

    • Thank-you Nancy! Hosting on my blog will always rank #1 because I honestly think it’s the best environment for this. You’re a good sport to even consider something different so you can enjoy where it goes!

  9. Hey there Donna,

I love what your doing and would love to join in the link ups, just a lil confused how.

Ive been admiring your junk for quite some time. My website is more about repurposing and refurbishing old crap and I love it. Just like this Sewing Table turned Desk Transformation on my website or here: https://createwithcynthia.com/sewing
    -cabinet-turned-desk-transformation-and-a-night-I-was-stood-up-on-a-date/

    • Awesome, and it’s easy to join! Add your blog post url into the link up widget at the bottom of this party post before Wednesday ends. It’s a blue button. Can you see it on your device? Then you add the other credentials it asks.

  10. Hi, Donna. I’ve been following your blog for several years now, because I am always inspired by your style. Your creations are truly one-of-a-kind. I hope you continue to host the party weekly. I follow other link parties, but don’t enjoy them as much as yours. I am always looking for fresh craft ideas for my home, but I honestly hate having to search other link parties that include recipes, work-at-home ideas, etc. Your party is the best because you don’t include all the noise. And because your loyal party members, like Organized Clutter, are the best. Thanks for your time, Skippy

    • Thank you so much Skippy! Not sure if you were around at the time but this party used to have three link-ups each week. Home decor, recipes, and new crafts. It was huge! However the other two subjects just weren’t my passion so I pulled it back and got super specific to chime in with my own personal brand moreso.

Although the party today is much smaller now, I love it so much more as well! Glad you enjoy what it’s become as well!

  11. Hi Donna, I’m not a blogger but I enjoy your blog, and your link party’s. I wouldn’t change a thing.

  12. I have always loved your blog and the party. I have used many of the wonderful designs and creations that I see on both. I don’t have a blog or do Instagram. But I do appreciate all the work that you put into making your site such a great place to visit.

  13. The link parties are beneficial as I personally like to see what ‘other’ people are thinking. Sometimes I will link up to another blog that I find interesting as well and might not have known about otherwise.

Love your blog and following your personal story.
    Deb

  14. Only just found these link parties and have no clue how they work yet. I find them on one website and just jump from one blog to the next hoping to find one that has not run out. So I would love to see yours continue, and added to facebook if that is something you are happy to do. I get lots of comments on my website which I started as a hobby. But now I and trying to make some money because people seem to like my projects. I just need to get them out there.

    • Hi Anita!

Basically how it works is, a blog will decide to host a party, inviting other project makers to share.

You scroll down to the bottom of the party post, then cut and paste a DIY tutorial link from your blog by clicking the blue button. Then fill in the rest of your credentials it asks. It’s very easy, and I invite you to try!

The widget then shares the others that linked up. That doesn’t mean they are hosting a party as well though, they are simply sharing their projects so you have a chance to visit them to be inspired.

Every link party has their own set of rules… mine happens to be about upcycled projects only, so you are welcome to share anything you have upcycled!

I hope you give it a go! Linking up provides a wonderful way for added exposure to your blog and projects.

  15. I found your blog because of the link-up. I often share the blog because of the link-up. I’d love it if you kept it.

  16. I love the Link Parties. I’m always interested in seeing what others are doing, and I always get one or two ideas. Plus it’s a great way to find new bloggers. Keep it going.
