When I was looking for furniture to marry my upcycled take on the world, it just wasn’t happening. There was nothing out there that could execute my love for reclaimed.
So I took it upon myself to make it happen.
Here is how to marry high tech with an upcycled twist. Funky Junk style. ๐
Sawhorse ladder blogging office tutorial
To call this actual furniture kinda makes me chuckle. I didn’t know how to build a thing at the time! I mean, this blogging desk is just a ladder propped onto two sawhorses, with attached pallet wood for the top.
But it wasn’t about dove tail joins or fine wood working. It was, “How can I make something out of what I had, that would be productive and fun to look at in my style? Without being a real builder?”
No tall order there… ๐
Thing is, I wanted to love what I had in my home. And the only way I could make that happen was to create something you just can’t buy. I had to completely wing it to see what I could create.
Pallet TV Media stand tutorial
It’s all about experiementing. When I create something with salvaged materials, I think of need first, then search out my stash to see how I can make it happen.
So when I needed a TV stand, I checked to see if the components would fit into the pallet slots. (they did!) Then I figured out how to add legs. Which were custom made to accomodate the soda crate drawers.
Building and staging like this is kind of like building with blocks. You don’t know how it will all end up yet. You just stack things up, try them out and see what happens.
You can’t get away from the sleek, modern look of flat screen TVs, SD cards, and headphones. So I don’t even try. But marrying old with new is absolutely possible!
And here’s a little more proof…
Signed up old toolbox sidetable to store remote controls
Branch handled toolbox charging station
Reclaimed wood pipe handled laptop bedtray
Toolbox phone charging station
Funky cabinets on a wall camera lens and iPod station
Reclaimed wood topped laptop patio table
Just put some old relics to work, and you’ll soon end up with a blend that not only chimes with your personal style, it’ll be one of a kind original!
Just. Like. You. ๐
How do you like to display modern technology? Do you chime it in with your own style?
