If someone asked me what I was most addicted to in the DIY world, I’d have to say reclaimed wood, old signs… and branches.
Interestingly enough, nearly everything I’ve made this Christmas has involved branches of some sort.
So why would my Christmas fireplace mantel be any different? 🙂
You actually already caught a glimpse of the reclaimed wood and branch deer HERE.
And since we made the decision to go away for Christmas, I wanted something that wouldn’t dry to a crisp before we returned.
Each galvanized bucket has a container of water that the fresh evergreen branches are sitting in, leaving the end result simulate a grouping of Christmas trees.
A real, cracking fireplace is part of the charm of course. I was pretty stoked that this house still had one when we moved in.
Of course, the fireplace makeover changed things just a tad… do you know the fireplace story?
When my house was being renovated, friend Dan immediately deemed the fireplace all his. His words, “The upstairs needs a strong focal point… and that’s the fireplace. I’d like to help with that.”
I couldn’t believe my ears! Knowing the kind of themed work he produces, I immediately started gathering some inspiration. All I knew is, I desired the fireplace to go all the way to the ceiling with an old world feel.
And he and his team made it happen. You can read the entire story HERE.
And if you think the fireplace is really something, wait till you see his new house HERE.
I can’t imagine this room with any other fireplace. It’s big, bold, funky, with a dash of…
… reclaimed wood deer in a forest. 🙂
Gotta admit, playing with the fireplace feels like a new Christmas gift every year. 🙂
I think I will try the bucket of greenery with water next year. They dry out way to fast! Merry Christmas!
So jealous … I would love to have your fireplace in our home. And then I’d have to have you come and decorate it for me!
Merry Christmas, Donna!
There was no doubt in my mind that your 2014 mantel would be anything short of brilliant. Once again D, you outdid yourself. I love this. The pop of red is sheer perfection.
MERRY CHRISTMAS FRIEND!!!
M 🙂
