I can see the finish line, and it feels great!

But on a whim, I came across the desire to create a mini Christmas trees crate forest…

I mean, Christmas tree crate skirts (like the one I made for this year’s Christmas tree) are all the rage these days… so why not for mini trees too?

Do you remember my little Herb crates from this past summer?

When my eyes landed on the blank backside of the crate, I needed to put it work. I simply stenciled Christmas Trees on one side, then Spruce and Fir on one side, and it was complete!

The crate basically spells out this story, and the trees inside and sprinkled around it offer the visual, creating an instant little forest.

If you don’t have any mini Christmas trees, varying heights of buckets filled with evergreen branches could be equally cute!

Stencil tips:

  • Ensure your stencil brush is very dry to the touch.
  • Position stencil, then gently tap or swirl the paint on your surface. If your brush is dry enough, the paint will not bleed under the stencil.

All the actual stencil steps for this project are included in the short video tutorial below.

I love the little Spruce and Fir saying on this side.

Trees in tin cans

.

The little trees in the tin cans were found at Hobby Lobby not that long ago. They were half price at about $5 USD each.

My only regret is not picking up at least a DOZEN. They look good everywhere and I’m always grabbing them for photo shoots.

So no… my house is not fully  decorated for Christmas. If I’d leave them alone it may be!

But I can tell I’m going to have a lot of fun with these all winter long.

While these cute faux trees on Amazon HERE are not the same, they are cute!

The faux ‘fine’ snow

.

We have faux snow in Canada, but over the past couple of years, the snow has morphed from white to clear. These days it’s like buying a bag of shredded clear plastic. So I just quit buying it.

So when I was in Hobby Lobby, I checked the snow isle. While theirs was also clear, one bag got me curious…  it was labeled ‘fine’. It looked a little more realistic, so I decided to take a chance.

Well… I ended up LOVING the stuff! And wish I had a dozen bags of that too.

The plastic chips are cut up VERY fine and the snow really resembles the real deal, especially for photo shoots. I love it and will buy loads next time I come across some!

Mini FULL video tutorial

I share lots of short videos within my tutorial posts, however this one is a little different. It has full voice-overs and takes you from start to finish.

I’ve been producing these short yet full videos for social media, however the only thing that’s missing is a proper Funky Junk home for them with a supply list attached. Also, those not on social media miss what I put there… So here is one… let me know what you think!

Much of what I do for Christmas decor is handmade, so it’s my hope that by sharing small projects like a mini Christmas trees crate forest in between the bigger ones, they will help inspire and possibly teach you something new to try!

I’ll be sharing some other short and sweet project ideas as well as hopefully my fireplace mantel this week so stay tuned for much more!
