Cleaning up and clearing out for bigger and better

An unexpected happening transpired downstairs in the neglected basement. My photo studio has taken on a new look of late.

Last Sunday, I had great intentions on getting up EARLY and heading out to the flea market again to curate more junky goodness for this weekend’s market I’ll be a part of.

But… something held me back. The early rise didn’t appeal to me for a start. So I sabotaged myself so it didn’t make sense to go. I just delayed everything so it was too late.

(nothing like not being able to admit that you AREN’T going, but rather, you may if you get out the door in time… self inflicted mind games much?)

Well, once it was just way too late ( the pouring rain didn’t help, I secretly rejoiced!) I wandered downstairs to my junk holding tank in my pjs holding a fresh coffee, (no plan to leave home here!) and thought maybe I could let some things go instead that I wasn’t using any longer from my own.

The collection grew and grew.

It actually grew to the point of admitting I didn’t need to buy anything more… I had pretty much a store full right in my home!

(the saddle from my childhood stays…)

So in case you were thinking I was planning to sell things I actually made, the more accurate term would be ‘garage sale’. It’s great stuff to work with for those that love to create.

I’ve never been heavy on selling things I’ve made… yet anyway. I don’t really care for production work, so that’s why you haven’t seen me fill up an Etsy store or the like.

I see myself as more of a designer, knocking out one of a kind new ideas. An idea maker if you will, with those that know how to build and ship doing that part.

I’d love to either curate or develop a line of products, but me being positioned at the helm of designer? Sign me up!

Not sure how that will all play out yet, but I’m pretty happy to be losing lots of this stuff regardless. I have big new plans for this basement that use to house my sign shop and it’s needed for other things now, to make the space even more productive for the things I’m doing today.

My dreamy plans that have no real plan yet…

Rip up that carpet and lay down a rustic floor.
Board up some walls and hang more.
Create a functional (and very junky) crafting area.
Develop my building area as one where it’s bright enough to photograph the process (a dark garage isn’t cutting it)
Build worktables that will possibly allow for…. small workshops?
Continue on with my garage dream workshop.
Possibly add a small extension or outbuilding for ?

Or move. 🙂 (I’m sure my neighbours wish I’d either work on my yard or move at this point!)

I didn’t expect to clean up and clear out for bigger and better in time for the market, but that’s exactly what’s happening.

And I believe, for all the right reasons… whatever they may be…

  1. Donna,
Hooray for Happy Accidents. It “rained” so you could not go to the Flea. Your stash had enough to sell. The space looks awesome for a Funky Junk Haven.(studio)Have a great time teaching and seling at the Fair.
    Have a creative day,

  2. It looks to me like you have more than enough right there Donna! As a matter of fact I see a few things I’d buy 🙂 Good luck to you … you are going to do great!

  3. It looks like your kittie has the right idea…find a basket and take a nap! Cats get all the good napping places!

  4. Good for you, my basement is a disaster area and I really need to get down there and start tossing. I love that green chippy birdcage it is beautiful. Best of luck this week-end, I’m sure you will do great.

  5. Hurray! Yay for things changing for bigger and better without you really planning it. I’ve got a bit of that going on here – I have a store front to put my handmade and vintage and painted stuff in and I’m in the process of becoming a paint retailer too – still can’t believe it’s happening and still a bit afraid it will all fall apart!
Happy happy to see your dreams coming true.

  6. Oh my, that is your basement? I have never seen such a windowed basement before….. you must live on a steep hill? Anyway……….

How much for that beautiful kitty kat? No, no, no, I have too many now. I spend more on my fur babies than I do on myself. Steve says I don’t need any more kitty kats or pups. Oh well, you know they all talk and I am sure they neighborhood kitty kats and pups tell all the throw away’s to come to my house.
