Snowshoes in a Christmas kitchen forest with sign

I’ve always wanted snowshoes to decorate with. As in, EVERY. SINGLE. WINTER. I just haven’t landed any in my area. I’m not near any antique stores so this dream just never came to pass.

Until this year.

I knew I wanted this year’s Christmas theme to be forest-like… and boy would snowshoes be perfect. My thoughts were actually driving me a little crazy.

And then I got an email.

Long time reader and friend Sandy has actually been to my place before, dropping off some old junk HERE!

And it just so happed that she had some snowshoes that she didn’t have a use for and asked if I wanted them before she got rid of them!

WHAT. IN. THE. WORLD?!

So I teamed up with her husband Colin and daughter Ginette that drove for HOURS to attend an event out my way. We met up in town and I was all too happy to take those pesky things off their hands… 😀

But they didn’t just give me two. I was handed FOUR.

Oh my goodness…

Where are the pictures of this exchange again? Bad, bad blogger forgot. I was too excited about the dang snowshoes.

Oh, and then Sandy mentioned to me, “You can sell the ones you don’t want…”

Yeah, NO. I’ve waited too many years for these to go anywhere, plus they are all being used! More on that soon…

I just adore them all. So thank-you dear Sandy for thinking of  little ‘ol me. You have NO idea what a perfect Christmas gift this was to me!

Now about that sign…

If you’ve already read Christmas Miracle #1 post HERE, you’ll already know the story about my beloved General Store sign I’ve procrastinated making for 2 years.

Well, this appears to be the year to make all dreams come true, because if you get two miracles, you may as well combine them together…

Hello there snowshoes in a forest Christmas kitchen windows with my beloved 2 year dream sign!

Festive, and all about nature. The forest to be exact.

But first, would you just look at that beautiful beast all stunning in that window?!

Pretty pretty pretty! I love the shape and texture and story behind snowshoes. There’s nothing not to love.

And the snowshoe even hides the outlet behind it too! Total bonus.

How I find free evergreen branches

Right after a big windstorm, I head over to my favorite strip of country road to gather up evergreen branches along the side of the road.

I do this every year if not more than once. I’ve gone 3 times so far! It’s the best way to get evergreen branches for free, plus you’re actually helping cleanup the neighbourhood as well.

I promise to make a video of the dead trees I picked up… oh goodness… you will die. Coming soon.

How the valance was made

First up, the sign was centred over the windows.

I then inserted screws to the sign to hang branches from.

The branches were positioned to resemble a garland of sorts. They both had weird kinks in them with super right angles so it worked out really well!

And of course, little Christmas trees finish the story off right.

  1. Hi Donna. I am behind in posting because my computer was acting up. How wonderful of Sandy to give you four snowshoes. That was so nice of her husband and daughter arrange to meet you. Love hearing happy stories like this one. And now I gotta tell you I am enjoying all of your creations this holiday season. I mean, I love it all. Seems to me you’ve got your ‘mojo’ back. All your journaling and working through life’s hurdles has really helped. And thank goodness for your wonderful son who is willing to help mom get her dream tree. Way to go! Thank you Donna!

  2. Ahh Donna! That was so great to see and read, love your kitchen forest. Colin is impressed. We chose the perfect person to repurpose and love those snowshoes.

  3. Oooh, ahhh, I absolutely love the way your new sign looks. I just adore old red with natural green. How special is that? Your kitchen window looks awesome & that wooden snowshoe looks wonderful too!

  4. Love all your decorations. I have a pair of snowshoes I found at flea market many years ago..I have them in our family room, which is done with half log walls, cabin style…It is perfect. I have a tree stump for the stair rail post at the bottom of the stairs and I have them leaning up against it.

  5. That looks awesome! Love those little trees. Have been looking for something similarly realistic. Can I ask where you got them? Merry Christmas and thanks!

  6. Donna,
The word ‘drooling’ is the most accurate one to describe my reaction 😉 I read your Red sign post yesterday around midnight and my first reaction was like ‘I’m going to the basement right now to make it’. Its wonderful – color, letter, distressing- all of it!

  7. Love, Love, Love this post! Your kitchen is so Awesome, Donna. I Love it all. You are an Inspiration to all! I have the buffalo check stencil that I purchased from you. I have used it on many things. Chairs, signs, pails, snowman scarves….the possibilities are endless.
Hoping to purchase more of your stencils in the future. I have to get back to blogging to post pictures of what I made with your stencil.
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!!
