Happy cheater Halloween decorating! No carving required.

These days with a 14 year old in the house that has no desire to hit the streets for candy (because mom bought a ton and it’s inside a nice cozy warm home)… we’ll be staying home tonight. And since my boy also had no real desire to decorate either, I took it upon myself to throw up some 5 minute decorations so the kids would at least feel welcome to knock on the door.

Faux pumpkins sitting on a ladder, lit with Christmas lights… doesn’t get much cheaterish than that.  (hey, one year it was a pathetic cat carrier with lights inside… we are moving up here!) Skye agrees, this is cooler and she’ll be on the watchful lookout for the trick or treaters.

And since we didn’t do any ‘real carving’ except for this one my son brought home from school, (it’s so teenagerish isn’t it?), we’ll work around this.

There are these little ledges on both sides of the front door, so I loaded them up with clay pots and tea lights. And some other junk.

I love the glowy candle behind the very dirty old window! Kinda spooky don’t you think?

And here’s the other side of the door.

I’m sure this ladder and sticks will look ever so lovely at night… I can hope. :)

I can honestly say I didn’t miss carving pumpkins one bit. We’ve done our fair share over the years and I think this is just as cute. As long as something is illuminated, that seems to be the key. So I’ll brew up some coffee, light the fireplace and enjoy the warmth of staying home and the smiles from the happy kids that come by. Bring it on!

In other news, I have some rather exciting plans for the weekend. I’ll be taking part in my first women’s retreat in a chalet type setting in the woods! It should be interesting! I’ll see about sharing some lovely shots via Instagram when time allows. You can follow along on Instagram Funky Junk Interiors HERE and maybe even throw a few on Funky Junk Facebook HERE.

Party Junk will fire up as usual Friday evening but a little earlier this round. I made the party live early last week and got some favourable feedback on that so stay tuned!

And just for fun, here are a few shots of fall in the front yard. I couldn’t resist! Throw in a few pretty leaves and you’ve got me.

  1. Perfectly spooky!!

I still read your posts and find then inspiring.
Hope you and your son have a fantastic fall. You always have a place to stay in. Pennsylvania if you come down south!

  2. Hi Donna, I let my three kids {6, 9 and 16} decide if we should go out trick or treating in the 30 degree weather, or stay inside with hot cider, donuts and movies. They chose staying inside-yippee! haha
The women’s retreat sounds lovely and I hope it’s a wonderful, refreshing time for you.
Your Halloween porch looks just right : )

  3. As a wise woman said on Grey’s Anatomy last night – cherish the ten years of Halloween you get with a child. After that you as a parent are just in the way.
