Another epic junk shopping trip to Granny and Grumpa’s Antiques

When I took a trip down south several years ago, I was ASTOUNDED on the amount of junk and antiques the region has, compared to little ‘ol quiet BC, Oh Canada.

While we don’t have many places to hunt in the lower mainland, (between Vancouver and Hope) there are three places I will always suggest to go without fail.

Rusty’s in Harrison Hot Springs, Fort Langley (the whole town!), and Granny and Grumpa’s in Abbotford.

Recently, my neighbour and friend Corinne and I head on over to Granny and Grumpa’s once again to see what was new.

It was Corinne’s first time, and boy did she get the royal eye candy treatment!

All the goods sold here are in different barns, grouped together on the farmland property.

MY LATEST VIDEOS

This barn is one of my favs, because stuff is truly from junk to valuable, rare antiques.

And the lighting is so good! That’s a thing when you are a blogger.. 🙂

This place tends to overwhelm you, because there’s so many of one thing.

Including the haunted Halloween doll house.

All those eyes… and wonky, tilted heads.

Be sure to follow me on Instagram, and look for the 24 hour stories. When we junked that day, I showcased one of the creepiest dolls I’ve ever seen on it! I couldn’t bring myself to take a lasting picture of it though. Just think horror movie creepy.

I wanted this metal Texaco sign so bad! I have the perfect wall space for it, beside the stairway. But at $800, it stayed put. You know…until pay day.

(…right)

If you are in the market for movie seats, it’s time to go NOW. There were so many, and they were truly in excellent condition and gorgeous! And so comfy.

What do you call these things? Are they considered boeys? Well, whatever they are, they were my colours! Black, white and wood. YUM!

Now I just need a cabin to hang them in.

I mean… isn’t it finally time?!

One of the large barns has an upstairs. 2 levels of decadent barnish kinda junk most certainly works for me!

There’s Grumpa down below. He kept us company, puttering around the barns as we shopped.

He’s quite the character, and will be sure to entertain you with his jokes!

p.s. beware of the now famous I’m sure antique chamber pot with a ‘surprise’. He will show it to you every time you come.

Leave some for me, Corinne! I adore the bottle and license plate room.

Just when I want a few, there are so many, I have to walk away and think about it! Then go home empty handed of course.

Click this pic above if you can’t make it out, but notice that all the plates are organized by province? Probably year too.

Lined up red and blue dollies at Granny & Grumpa's Antiques | funkyjunkinteriors.net
This place is really considered a touring museum with a choice to purchase. Pretty unique.

And a good place to check out if you need a red, blue, blue, blue, red, or blue dolly.

And here I fight to store one…

Old sign filled barns at Granny & Grumpa's Antiques | funkyjunkinteriors.net
We picked a rainy day, but that was ok! The barns are lit, and huge.

You don’t let rain hold you back on the wet coast, or you’ll just be wet and bored.

Huge rusty pully wheels at Granny & Grumpa's Antiques | funkyjunkinteriors.net
Gimme gimme! For what, I don’t know. But I want them all anyway, and about 10 guys to lug them around. I couldn’t pick up even one.

They really need to invent gorgeous, rusty metal that doesn’t weigh 80 trillion tonnes.

Now this tractor seat could have come home!

But… I was overwhelmed and wanted to think about it.

Which makes NO sense now that I see it on a picture. It should be here.

I really don’t need it though. Sadly.

Walk with care… you are near the chamber pot!

But don’t worry. If Grumpa sees you missing it, you’ll be led back.

Maybe I should have come here first when I lost my camera in Maui.

And then there’s the Horror House Wheel Chair Isle. Why do they look so creepy?!

I should make name tags for all the isles to shake things up some.

Massive scales while junk shopping at Granny & Grumpa's Antiques | funkyjunkinteriors.net
And if those 10 guys were shopping with me, they’d bring that big scale home for me too.

I can’t even swing it, it’s so heavy.

These antlers were pretty cool.

And then there was the new old barn wood in stock… ohhhhhmyyyyygooooodness.

It was GORGEOUS! I may go back for a few to make something special. But man, imagine a whole wall of that gorgeousness…

Merry Christmas to me?

And, you know I brought something home, yes?

I hit my fav rusty junk room and did some rummaging. And this is all I got!

I’ve been a good girl lately, still trying to purge stuff down.

But, check out that cow tag!

Love the tray/pan and the hook too! The tiny little casters were equally unique.

And these pots… the perfect patina with all that dirt!

After our fun shopping trip, Corinne and I then head off to the local bakery \ coffee shop, that’s decorated in floor to ceiling repurosed barnwood and junk. I’ll have to try and go there one day with the camera and ask if I can feature them. I know you would LOVE it!

Looks like I have another great excuse for a freshly brewed coffee…

  1. I love going junkin! Sound like yall had lots of fun, and seen lots of good stuff. We recently found a neat place in the middle of town that we didn’t even know was there (and I’ve lived here all my life). It consists of 4 or 5 old buildings full of doors, windows, knobs, etc. So much to look at.
Can’t wait to see what you do with your great find .

  2. What an awesome day junk shopping. Holy cow that place is amazing and I think I’m long over due a trip to the junk store. We have a neat on in town that I haven’t been to in goodness probably a year. I always get caught up in the history everything in these types of stores, it just takes me to a time when life was simpler. Thanks for sharing this outing – I’m inspired..

    • I agree with your comment about thesse types of places taking us back to simpler times. A couple years ago I was off work for a couple months, stress related!, and I would go to the antique malls in town to relax. When I walked in the door it was like the weight of the world was lifted off my shoulder! No better therapy for those of in love with the ‘junk’ of the past.

  3. Probably lucky for me that this is on the West Coast instead of East … and in another country to boot! 🙂

  4. WOW!!!! AMAZING!!!!!
If I lived in Canada , I would probably ask them if I could move in and pay rent! What fun it would be to wake up and spend your day going through all that stuff, and you wouldn’t have to lug it home,it would already be there!! thanks for the great pics.

  5. Oh wow, it has been forever since I was in a place like this. I love it and it would be sensory overload!
Lots and lots of goodies for certain. Thank you for sharing your trip, it was a fun way to start my day. I am off to paint windows today but I will be asking around for any cool antique barn/junk shops to visit nearby.
There has to be some and I just don’t know about them yet.

    • Pamela, that’s exactly how I heard about this place. I’ve lived in my current town for about 10 years and only found out about G & G 2 years ago. They are only 10 minutes away from me. Mind blown…

Maybe try a google search for your area?

  6. Looks like a fund day! I have the perfect place for you to go junking here in Arizona/California. People have been dumping there since forever. I find all kinds of cool rusty stuff. 1956 license plate, old gas station front plates, china, old studebaker hub caps…… so much other cool stuff. You would love it! Now I just need to learn to be creative like you and do something with it all.

  7. wow…I had no idea there was a place like that back home! you need to go back and get some of that barn wood with the red for Christmas signs!

  8. We came to B.C. to visit family there, and had found Granny & Grumpa’s on-line before we even came..our family took us there, not knowing what it was..Grumps himself was sitting outside with a huge smile on his face..what a guy! Two hours later, we were on our way..had to get a used suitcase for our take-home treasures…could have spent a whole day there..

  9. Love Granny and Grumpa’s. Grumpa (John) is such a funny guy too, very kind.
Those things you thought might be boeys are called floats, I think – not 100% sure.
Sounds like you had a day in heaven!!

    • Oh goodness, YES! Floats! Of course! I think this means I need more lake time in my life? haha

And John is a completely and utter DEAR. I love him and his crazy chamber pot antics! 🙂

  10. WOW! what a great place to shop or just prowl! I LOVE the tractor seat stool! ( just paint it a different color please 😉 )
nothing I’d love any better than to “come with you next time”! 😀
keep up the good work & good prowling 😉

  11. Donna,

I am jealous…we have nothing in Northern California that I am aware of like this. Wonder if Mary is referring to Quartside near Arizona/California? I have heard of a place there but never been. I have two theatre seats and both the back and seat are padded. Yes, very comfy. Also, have brass cow tags with three engraved numbers on each one. We have put them up on the bedroom doors. I would love to go junking with you. Keep on junkin’.

  12. I want it all!! Such an awesome looking place. LOVE the tractor seat stool. And I have a place for it!! Thank you for another post that made me drool. I have never seen a place with so much cool stuff in one place and so organized. If only I lived closer……….Thank you for sharing.

  13. What a cool place! That large “Oliver” sign has my name all over it. Those dolls are creepy. I used to play with dolls and had many of them when I was small, but it seems after watching my first horror show, now they’re all creepy – especially clown dolls! LOL I don’t know if I could have restrained myself as well as you did – I would have come home with a carload of junk!

  14. Thank you for this post and the address Donna. I have seen your posts about this place before but when I saw that barn wood I was sold! We are going to make a trip to Granny and Grumpa’s at the end of this month. We are coming over from Victoria, so we are hoping there will be some of that gorgeous barn wood left when we get there.
