Michael’s blog Inspired by Charm is very well named. These firewood end cut Christmas trees were a direct result of his project yesterday on 12 Days of Christmas.
Michael’s Colorful DIY Forest had me yearning for a rustic version of these trees. “I can do that!” is what my brain told me. Until I read his part about having cutting issues. That scared me.
I wandered outside shortly after and walked passed the woodpile, when BAM! The brainstorm hit.
I mean, look! Look at all the cute little rustic trees I don’t have to manually hand cut! All I’d have to do is slice the end of a chunk of firewood. Sounds easy enough.
I seem to be on a firewood agenda this Christmas. First it’s my log candle centrepiece, then the wood round garland, and I can now think of so many more cool things to make…
How I made them…
1. Using a miter saw, chunks of firewood were cut into slices. No sanding required this round.
And Michael, because of your story, I made sure to wear my safety glasses AND gloves! 🙂
And then the fun began. Buttons, a clothespin holding greens and a pinecone were hot glued onto the trees, and a canning jar lid and rusty gear as well as wood chunks became the tree trunks.
I experimented with the buttons and found when they were one colour scheme, they looked cuter.
What a fun, easy project for kids too!
They looked rather cute lined up along a faded red 2×4 I happened to find in my stash. Would be perfect for a little window sill enhancement. Or maybe on my new bathroom shelves I built for day 3… hmmm….
I can think of all kinds of places to tuck these little guys! Wouldn’t they also be cute clipped onto your Christmas tree via a glued on clothes pin?!
But I do have a plan. Next week you’ll see where I end up using them as I have an extra special photo shoot taking place in the kitchen. I didn’t even show my kitchen in my Christmas 2013 Tour, so stay tuned! It isn’t over yet! 🙂
Well friends, that concludes the 12 days of Christmas series. Wow… it was a big run. Creating brand new things for 12 days straight was no small feat for any of these bloggers. I hope they got more sleep than I did, but I doubt it. 🙂
As for tomorrow? You do NOT want to miss the final BANG. Each blog is hosting a themed link party and giving away a present! I can’t wait to tell you all about it… but the party starts tomorrow. See you bright and early!
p.s. and bring your junk….
Such a creative idea. I really like it
Guess I’ll have to do a post about how you were inspired and then you inspired me. I love those little trees, and I think I have split wood. Nevermind….. I won’t get to them this year anyhow, I’ll pin ’em for next year.
Oh my gosh, I’m in love. THese are just perfect. I’d like to share a Christmas tree that my grandchildren and I made with naturals that were sent to us when our thankfulness altar to Mother Nature was stolen out of our front yard. I have seen you ladder tree and took the start from that. Everything on the tree is either vintage or reclaimed in a different way. I love your blog and am a silent fan, but I just had to share this.

There are 5 blog posts all together but this one features all the wonderfulness that was shared by ladies from all over the globe. I hope you enjoy, Happy Holidays, Oma Linda
Very smart to look at your wood pile and see them ready for you to cut! I love how you decorated them, love the rustic look of them! I have to pin this, I love them!
Debbie 🙂
Donna…these are soooo cute! Makes me see Christmas tree potential all over the place! Rustic…love that!
