How to make a burlap bow

When I hosted the Michaels Hometalk Pinterest Party, I was given a little surprise. This beautiful crate of crafts was gifted to me from the Michaels Abbotsford team!

Stunned, I took it home and waited until I felt I had the time to super appreciate every little surprise tucked inside. And today was the day. Yup, I waited this long to open it.

But before going too far, I took note of the amazing burlap bow on the cellophane. Upon closer inspection, I noted it was truly hand crafted. Wow.

Three layers thick, this bow was worth blogging about! So without ruining it by taking it all apart completely, I think we can pretty much figure out how it was done.

Such a stunning result! I could see a smaller scale of this on rustic wrapped presents.

So, come on back soon now and I’ll show you what’s inside the crate…

I kid! That would be so mean. So let’s open the present…

A requisite cat photobomb picture… because it’s just the law here. Apparently.

I love this law.

Ohhhhh check out all those BRUSHES! The jar to the left was all in one bag… wow, that’s one great range for one package!

I also love using those wider white ones to the right so was thrilled to get a few more.

Check out that frame… I keep seeing it chalkboarded out and framing something that can’t be moved… or on a door. Thinking…

And that large crate? You know you’ll be seeing that guy doing something cool soon.

The crate was also filled with mini mason jars and 4 stretched burlap canvases.

Boy, did I get spoiled! Thank-you Michaels Abbotsford!

Well, time to wrap this up. I have some serious playing to do here… 😀

What would you make with these craft supplies? I’d love some ideas!

  1. What a lovely gift! Thank you for sharing and giving us inspirations to try to make our own. I love all the goodies in the box, including the box. I am making 200 burlap goody bags for my granddaughter’s July wedding. We are going to put a snack bag filled with wildflower seeds inside the bags for each guest. I am also making the silverware holders from burlap and lace. What a versatile fabric it is. Who woulda’ thunk it would become so popular and elegant! Thank you for all your inspirations and I love you page. Keep those ideas coming. Thanks again. jan

  2. So many wonderful new toys to play with! I love the birdcage and your mason jar lid tutorial. The bow looks wonderful! I think I might play around with some of my own, thank you!

  3. Well, for starters, I’d paint that larger crate a lovely bright turquoise, inside and out. Add 4 casters on the bottom, then paint or stencil the words, Doggy Toys, or the Doggy’s name and then Toys on both ends. Throw in all the toys that he/she scatters around the house.

I have a birdcage similar to yours that I put out on my front porch on an old bench and add shells and marbles to it. A small starfish sometimes finds its way in there, too.

As for the mini burlap squares, I see silhouettes of a singing bird on a branch on each and hung in the bathroom.

I haven’t seen those tiny mason jars yet, but I’ll be getting some soon for stamp storage, and or buttons, safety pins, glitter, rusty jingle bells, etc.

There, some ideas of what I would do if somebody gave me such a wonderful gift!

  4. I just purchased the little birdcage this past week. I put one of my many bird statues inside and sat it next to a watering can in similar colors and a vase of faux pussywillows and forsythia to make an area in my living room feel more like spring than the thermometer says. Michaels showed hanging wind chimes from the bottom which was cute, just don’t need anymore wind chimes.

  5. Wow!!! Not only did you get to have fun teaching & creating with a lot of women, but you get rewarded for it! You have to love an event like that! Michael’s Abbotsford sure did a beautiful job with your thank you gift…I love the mini mason jars!

  6. Awesome gift! Love that bow! I’d use metal O rings from the hardware store to mount the pretty mason jars to the front of the wrapped canvas’s so I could hang them on the wall and maybe put faux flowers in one, a handful of little pennant flags made with skewers in spring colors in another and one with faux colored eggs for Easter? It could be changed out for the seasons!
