This window setup was meant to be temporary. But one day my son stopped in his tracks, pointed and exclaimed, “I LOVE THAT!” Well, my boy doesn’t generally give a HOOT about any staging I do, so this stunned me. And made me leave it. 🙂
But I wanted a touch of Christmas attached. So here is my revised bedroom window, tweaked for Christmas. Make a square evergreen wreath on a picture frame and you’ll have this look instantly too!
I was inspired by Shanty 2 Chic’s own version of a rectangle wreath made from garland. Check it out, it’s beautiful!
How to make a square evergreen wreath
You will need:
strong string
an empty picture frame
scissors
evergreen branches
1. Start off with a frame of choice. Black was just a bonus, so the wood didn’t peek through.
2. Collect evergreen branches of your choice.
3. Lay the evergreen branches against the frame, with additional branches covering the front, then the sides so the frame totally disappears.
4. Wrap string tightly around the evergreen branches and frame as you work around the entire frame.
5. Trim evergreen branches with scissors to suit. Work the branches a little as well to cover the string.
Using green or transparent string would have had it disappearing moreso.
You may need to tweak a few branches and do a little more trimming once hung. But… it worked!
Being that I desired to dress up another frame a little differently on the same window sill, a small evergreen and pinecone spray was created by wiring them together with floral wire.
Brown string was used to attach the spray to the top of the frame. (I got smarter as I went along…)
How to make the grapevine / pinecone twig garland is HERE.

And after! Naturally, you can choose to dress up the evergreen frame wreath any way you wish. But with all the frames in the window and twig garland going on, simple made it just enough. She’s so cute!
And the frame isn’t half bad either…

See you tomorrow for Day 2!
I have to agree with your son; I love it! And she’s adorable.
Oh I love it. What a pretty window! I can understand that your son liked this, why wouldn’t he.
Great start!
I love this! I happen to have a square frame that I made out of willow last year. I can see what may happen now… 🙂
Donna!
What a fun idea…and totally brilliant! I have extra frames that would be perfect for this!
Happy 12 Days of Christmas to you!

I think I will really give this one a try, Donna. Love it! (and cute kitty, of course)
SO easy yet clever Donna! I love this so much. The window display is gorgeous! ~Sonya
D! This is awesome!! I may have to give this a try. I LOVE the square frame. I know this is a dumb question, but how long would this stay green indoors?

Not a dumb question at all! I did my mantel last year and it lasted nearly a month! The greens turned slightly darker and wilted a little so I just added some fresh to top it up and used snow spray. Guess we’ll see what happens with the frame… I have no idea! haha
Such is the life of an inventor, huh? 🙂
Your picture frame wreath is so cool–I love it with all your window ledge decor!
I can do this one! I can do this one! Thanks for sharing something beautiful and easy to make! I really like how your frames look in that window and I’ve always loved the garland.
