None of my windows wear your typical variety of curtains. There really isn’t room for them when you create things like a natural Christmas garland window valance you can make in moments!
So I paid a little visit to nature, gathering up springs of evergreen, branches, berries and such to help me reach my goal of a winter inspired valance.
I collected like minded tones and elements for a natural rustic look.
The pennant is a chunk of burlap, black construction paper, music sheet, and house number tied together with raffia on the top.
I had this rug beater that got hit with a little bit of greens, raffia and an old rusty bell.
I like to shop my own home for Christmas decor and plan to do that with everything I touch again this season. The look is natural and the price is always right.
Hang a string, and clip on your treasures with clothes pins.
Prefer fresh greens over faux but worry about them looking their best?
This is pretty easy to swap out.
I think I’m gonna deem this my pennant banner bunting garland window valance. I think I’ve covered them all that way. 🙂
I’m ready… let it snow!
Brilliant Donna. Love the terra-cotta especially.
I’ve got a great window banner to post on tomorrows party! Loving the inspiration!

Very cool look Donna. I love the rug beater. So many possibilities.
So pretty – and festive. It snowed in Chicago today. Well, kinda hailed frozen ice. Then it melted.
Fabulous!! Love the banner!!

Oh Donna – you’ve done it again. You have a gift! Thanks for inspiring us all.
Really looking forward to this weeks party.
My cats would love if I brought all that nature inside, and then added STRING!
How creative! Using what you have decorating is the original ‘green’ living! When we were very young (and mostly broke) there was no money for Christmas decorations and I had many Christmases with trees bearing popcorn strings, gingham bows, glittered pinecones, gingerbread cookies etc. Back then it wasn’t considered ‘shabby’ or especially creative like it is now. Funny how things change!
This is beautiful!!!! I, too, have some open windows, and I know just where I am going to make my own pennant banner bunting garland window valance! 😉 Thank you for the inspiration! I’ll be sure to show you how mine turns out!
This looks fabulous!
That’s really cute and simple. I love the natural look and everyone can find some natural ‘stuff’ around the house. Very cute…love it if my tree looked like that.
Love it!!!!!
Looks so great. And boy are you up to date with the seasonal decorating. November 11 and the first Christmas decor is up. But I know you did this in september or so right? For your magazine writing career.
Anyway I love it, I am so gonna copy it.
I Likey! Very Cool, as usual!
Cool! It’s so fresh and clean! I love how easy it is to change out the greenery sprigs…you’ll be able to enjoy that wonderful Christmas-y smell all through the season!
Donna, that is too cute!
Kat 🙂
I love the pennant look without having uniform pennants. So lovely!
