Due to all my deep cleaning, purging and painting of late, I’ve been eyeing up my front entry. It’s in desperate need of a new, fresh look.
After mulling things over, I decided to try a ‘test run’, or mini version of my brainstorm in the photo studio.
Every entry could use a place to hang stuff, and a chair to sit on. So being a fanatic of all things woodsy, this idea came together much like a puzzle.
First went up one old crate for a cubby. Then the old fence signs were just eyeballed and installed with screws, directly into the wall.
After the fun quilted map message centre setup last week, I wanted an excuse to play around again anyway!
So, once the main components were hung, the REAL fun started.
flowers,
with a heavy dash of productivity!
My vision is hanging a bunch of rustic signs vertically, bouncing their heights. Random screws are all over the place, to hang coats, keys and purses. And maybe even a bike helmut or two.

I really love working with layers.
Once the main components go up, a balancing act of sorts is next. The bowl was a little bare, so up went the oil funnel to break it up.
And on it went.
Some things go up, other things get pulled down. I just play until I like what I see.
The blue hydrangeas were the last left on the bush! Whew.. And the brown ones are from my dried collection indoors.
I could also totally see this on a bathroom wall with clean towels in those crates, and the ones being used hanging. I really like Miss Mustard Seed’s Furniture Wax – Amazon affiliate link on the old wood, so your fabrics are protected.
I quite enjoyed this ‘trial’, and will definitely be borrowing some of these elements for the real deal soon! And here’s hoping a few of these ideas also inspired you.
Now, because no photo shoot is without a cat arranging kinda photo bombing…
Thank-you Lake. The tipped over boot is puuuurfect!
Great entry set-up. Decorative yet functional. Love that.
I love the fun randomness of it all, Donna! We’re working on our entryway remodel, and I’m trying to decide what should go where.
You have the same sense of decor as me. When people ask what style my home is, I answer “organized clutter”. Love it!
thats a good answer!! lol I have organized “stuff”! lol
I call it “organized chaos”… haha
so cute! I LOVE old wooden boxes!
thx for sharing! 🙂
This is absolutely one of the freshest ideas.
I don’t know why the thought came to me, but I think it’s time for you to get a puppy!!! Skye and Lake could train it purfectly!! Always love your posts!! Cheers!!
HAHA! Well, I was biking the other day wishing I had a dog running beside me! But I think I’ll tough it out and stick with two cats. They aren’t quite as needy as a pup!
I think it looks great!
As always Donna – you nailed it. This turned out FABULOUS!
I am so in love with entryway.
It’s just so beautiful.
