I’m blaming this pallet wood sofa that’s also a lounger project on my friend Cindy. Or I should say, thanking her!

I spotted Cindy’s gorgeous summer patio decked out with cozy loungers on her Instagram stories, which looked so comfy!

So I started pricing some loungers out. The ones I wanted were SO expensive… ugh. And forget two at those prices. Plus I didn’t really have an ideal place for them when it rained if they sat on the lawn.

As most of you already know, my patio currently houses a pallet sofa and chair you can see HERE.

So I decided to spin my pallet sofa around to get a feel for a potential revamp. Could I really do without my beloved sofa after all these years?! And come up with an easy lounger build?

Probably! BUT!!!

Turns out I could have both without losing space nor any building whatsoever…

As a trial, I spun the sofa to mimic a lounger. But oh my it was so comfy! It really made a difference to have your feet up like that.

So one day I was sitting on this ‘lounger’ journaling over my morning brew and wrote in my to-do, “Make a lounger’.

That’s when I looked down around me and realized I already had. This was as comfy as ever as-is, plus I could push it back against the wall anytime I desired just a sofa again!

So… here’s my new-old pallet lounger! How easy was that?!

Now I’m glad I didn’t attach the back to the base, because this offers so much more flexibility.

After I made the decision to leave it as-is, I got busy and prettied things up (for the fall?). Somehow I missed summer! Oh well.

I brought out the subway sign styled painter’s drop cloth fabric again, puffed up a few coordinating pillows, hung up an Ikea light stolen from the guest bedroom, repainted the legs while reassembling the boards on the little patio table, tossed in a few cozy blankets and this lounger area was done!

But I couldn’t stop there… since this was basically my view, I needed to ramp up all four corners of the patio.

But I didn’t want much. Just enough.

How to make a Lake Rentals sign for summer decorating

 

Supplies used:

Fusion Mineral Paint’s Casement

Stencil brush

Using a small chunk of barn wood shiplap from my childhood farm, I whipped up this Lake Rentals sign for a small splash of colour and to help theme the patio direction.

It was painted in Fusion’s Casement with a special method which mimics a hand-lettered look!

The Lake Rentals sign was layered behind a few oars from my living room and a life preserver I just picked up recently from another stop at Switzer’s Antiques.

Grain sack striped pillow

 

The resin wicker table and chairs got styled with a single grain sack striped pillow and blanket, along with bringing out the reclaimed wood candles for a little added ambiance.

Fusion Mineral Paint’s Coal Black

Staalmeester brush #3600

The pillow was stenciled with Grain Sack Stripe G1L with Fusion Mineral Paint’s Coal Black in a ‘drag’ effect with a big brush that had it resembling linen! And it’s very easy to do!

Wooden candles

 

The reclaimed wood candles HERE were brought out for a little evening ambiance as well. I love the fact that I don’t have to fret about forgotten live flames, thanks to the battery operated votives.

Plus, it gets breezy on the patio so this works perfectly.

I also cozied-up the pallet chair in the left corner.

The little red train lanterns added a dash of colour to an otherwise once again flowerless patio.

Did you even notice the absence of flowers?! 

I do believe I’m getting the hang of ‘how to never have to hand-water again’ if this keeps up!

And if that move gives me a little more time to lounge away during the warm summer nights, I’m a-okay with that too!

Just when you think you need to change a bunch of stuff, sometimes all it takes is a gentle shuffle. I encourage you to try the same to freshen up a space. You never know what new stuff you’ll end up with… for absolutely free.
