Do you remember those tiny little beads everyone use to make bracelets and rings with?
Or maybe they still do?! 🙂
This wooden bead and cranberry Christmas wreath reminds me of them.
It was all about the wire. Threading all those little beads along the twisted wires doing this and that would take a long time, but the result was always worth it.
So.. I was just messing around with some branches and tried a wreath with wood slices. But… yet another dumpster fail went flying through the air.
Then it hit me… cut the wood into chunks, bead style, then thread it on wire. Just like those fancy little rings back in the day.
And my crazy little idea flew.
So… imagine these little wood chunks as beads, vs. slices. That’s they key.
This one is fun and easy for kids too!
You’ll need:
- crafting wire
- pre-drilling bit with cordless drill
- thick branches
- fresh cranberries / or something round (beads, chestnuts)
- a sprig of green
How to:
- cut branch to desired bead size (I used a miter saw)
- drill holes
- insert bead / cranberry, and repeat
- trim and twist wires to enclose wreath
- wire on a sprig of green
- add twine to hang
Isn’t it cute?!
I tried the wreath with just the wood, but the wire really showed.
Having something round in between the square cuts was the ticket. Beads or chestnuts could work too.
The wire makes the wreath sturdy and totally bendable to the shape desired.
And the best part of all? This project was fast!
The little wood bead and cranberry wreath was so cute, I couldn’t bear to remove it from my workshop.
I guess I’ll just have to make more for the house.
My pleasure… it sure beats those tiny beaded rings!
