Welcome to 3 days of junk shopping! #1 – Harrison Hot Springs.
Being that last weekend was my birthday (thanks for all the bday wishes you shared HERE), our out of the country plans didn’t transpire due to a change in weather. But I knew I wanted to spend my weekend having something to do with junk regardless, so I chose 3 of my favorite places local to me. First stop? Harrision Hot Springs!
This little beach front resort is one of my fav places. It’s got the coffee shop / antiques / nature walk atmosphere. And my friend Cyndi joined me as well!
First stop… Rusty’s. Always gotta stop at Rusty’s.
If you care to play along with “What would you do with” in comments, feel free!
1. Gorgeous rocking chair.
Don’t you love how the back and seat are cut out? Not a straight line in sight. Super lovely and rather comfy too! But I didn’t need it.
2. Kirky kettle.
Loved the shape and patina! And that handle! Looks a little like a bird head, doesn’t it? I’d probably find the most fantastic faux ivy vines and have it spewing out of the spout.
3. Chair without a seat.
I’d bet you have the same idea as I with this chair… plants growing out of it! Maybe for a patio so it would be protected?
4. Tiny vintage books.
Oh these were so stinkin’ cute! The pages were totally yellowed as well. They were such a unique size and wore the same colour tones I’d probably mount them in a square shape on the wall to showcase as wall art in a child’s room.
5. Cutting boards.
Someone local must be into woodwork! These were brand new wooden cutting boards with layers of strips attached. Absolutely gorgeous with fabulous prices, around $10 each. They’d make wonderful coasters for a coffee table.
So our next stop? The Back Porch!
I’ve blogged about this place many times too. It’s a great little escape that houses their own pottery / basket weaving studio, junk shop and hobby farm.
6. Basket willows.
I’d cut these up and create my grapevine pinecone garland or stick garland for sure! In fact, now I know where to get the perfect sticks should I desire to make them again.
7. Headboard hanger.
This was a very rustic but cool piece. I’d be tempted to add a chalkboard, bulletin board, note catching station and calendar to the empty panels to make it a full blown drop off centre for the entryway.
8. Vintage headboards.
I’d place these in the garden like I did with mine HERE. I have one for a gate, garden supports and one under a tree. They are gorgeous outdoors and only get better with more rust imo. 🙂 Or join a few and make a flower border, room divider style. How cool! Now I want them…
9. Oil can.
10. Wooden bowls.
Since my storage issues are through the roof (literally), and I haven’t begun to garden yet, I picked up these two smaller but totally adaptable items, a little oil can and two wooden bowls joined. I’m going to junk up my office more soon so the bowls will be fab for paper clips etc. The oil can will no doubt hold some kind of flowers for photoshoots. It’s just so cute! The crate with the kitty in photo 1 came home with me too. Of course…
We were also fortunate enough to watch this amazing doily pressed pottery bowl in full production. Isn’t that a neat texture trick?
You can see a basket being woven HERE from another visit. So interesting!
Stopping to say hello to the chickens is always a must. 🙂 The character buildings out back also get me every time.
Next stop, the beach!
Harrison is one beautiful escape. The beach front is covered with lush gardens with lots of grassy areas. This looks to be like the perfect sitting area to take it all in.
There are two ways to swim here, the man made beach keeps young swimmers wave free and the water much warmer.
And then the main lake (with a few beaches to choose from) offers sandy areas and rocky ravines.
This walkway leads to a complete walk around the man made beach. Many locals use this as a track of sorts. How fun would that be to walk around a lake any time you desired?
There’s also a trail that leads to the natural hot springs and loads of mountain trails for the more adventurous.
After our junkin’ and touring around, Cyndi and I took in the log cabin pub for their fabulous food. I ordered a lettuce wrapped loaded burger (trying to cut down on gluten) which was totally fabulous! Cyndi had a chicken and rice bowl and showed me the ropes on getting a pop experience without the sugar by ordering club soda and lime. First time here, true story! And I’m sold. I’ll be stocking some.
We had a fabulous day! Thanks for joining me, Cyndi! Next up, you’ll see day 2 of my junk weekend. Stay tuned…

What a gorgeous place! No wonder you chose to visit there for your birthday! I hope you had a wonderful day.
Happy Belated Birthday!
Your site is great. I don’t know how you have time to always post such regular updates and still do all those projects!
I almost flipped when I saw the Skeezix book! When our son was in kindergarten he came home and said he wanted a new name. He told us he wanted to be called Skeezix. To this day we had no idea where that came from. (he is 29 now) I’m pretty sure he just made it up.
That is just weird!!
Is this book for sale?
Thanks,
Lori
Hi Lori, if it’s still in the store it would be! You can google Rusty’s New & Used Collectibles in Agassiz, BC for more info… I found a search link here at: http://www.weblocal.ca/rustys-new-used-collectibles-agassiz-bc.html
Oh, that’s great.
I will check to see if they still have the book.
Thanks very much.
Lori
WHERE IS HARRISON HOT SPRINGS
Hi Patty, it’s located in BC, Canada along the west coast.
Your post makes me want to return to the PNW, love the junky places. There is one really junky place near the corner of Bow Hill Road and Route 11 in Washington State, I can’t for the life of me remember the name, Very near Edison, but it would be a fun jaunt for you. And Edison has a great bakery!!!! I am in Williamsburg, VA and I love it here, but your post brings back wonderful memories!! Thanks so much!!
Liz
Oh man… I’d go back to Virginia in a heartbeat! You truly have the best pickin’s out there!
Even better than “things” are ideas and inspirations and you are so full of both! I love the chair and would do two things with it. Take off the legs, remove the broken spindle and one next to it to open a space. Mount the seat/back on the wall, drop in a plant, put doodads on the wide seat space, make a small fabric hanging to suspend in the open space on the back. Then make a square fabric “basket”, mount it on narrow lathe and lay on tops of the legs so the basket hangs inside. Perhaps some finials on tops of the legs. Gotta go find a chair just like this one!!
Harrison Hot Springs is a beautiful place…..sure wish I could visit. Glad you have a wonderful time.
#3 is a birthing chair. Just sit down and get it done! Seriously it really is a birthing chair. Would absolutely love to have it and all the history that goes with it.
Sorry I missed your birthday, Happy Belated Birthday, Donna! Sounds (and looks) like you had a wonderful time. I can’t believe the scenery at the beach…incredible and so beautiful! But you do live in one of the most beautiful provinces in the country.
Debbie 🙂
Love Harrison Hot Springs! It’s been years since I have been. Now that I know there may be junk as well – I’m going.
Can you recommend a place to stay?
Thanks !
Hi Kathy, if you can afford it, stay at the Harrison Hot Springs resort hotel and spend some time in the 7 hot pools. Sooooo worth it! They give you a plushy white robe to strut around in too. 🙂
