We are back from camping! And my oh my is my camera heavy with happy findings! Today I’m going to take you on a nature walk through a gorgeous campground. I think you’ll understand very quickly why the escape was so enticing.

We stayed at the lovely Harrison Springs Camping and RV Park, located in Harrison Hot Springs, BC Canada. Just a short drive to the beach itself, this is the only campsite in Harrison that offers you a true rustic setting with lots of privacy.

Welcome to my campground office. See the picnic table to the right? Every morning and evening I set my laptop down in front of the creek, and kept in touch with the rest of the world for a short spell. This tranquil spot which could connect to wifi, was a very short walk from our own campsite, which didn’t receive wifi.

This was planned. I wanted to make sure it would take a mild effort in order to get online, because for the most part, we got away to get OFF line. It ended up being the perfect mix.

In our indoor 8 foot ceiling worlds, we truly overlook how tall the sky is and how far the trees can reach.

My forest styled office overlooked a lovely shallow creek with a bridge. During the week, the tire swing became the perfect stationery accessory to this pictorial atmosphere. By weekend, this place buzzed with happy kids and chatty parents holding coffees.

I don’t know the name of these ducks, but they sure were tame. So tame in fact, that when you drove into the campsite, my son was needed to shoo them out of the way.

I rather got attached to them. The place wouldn’t have been the same without them moseying along their inquisitive way.

That tire swing spoke to me, can you tell? I had one growing up on the farm, so this brought some pretty special memories flooding back.

Here’s a tire swing story that I will NEVER forget. My best friend Sue and I got this wild brainstorm one day. We’d twist up the tire swing good and tight, both hop on top, and get the spin of our lives!

So we tightened and twisted and made that rope work to the point of no more. We quickly hopped on the top, one on each side, and giggling ear to ear, hung on tight! Here we go!

The tire started unspinning slowly, but then quickly picked up momentum. Soon enough, the wind had us nearly breathless. We were flying!!!

Until… we started to slow down a little too soon… something went wrong. Our very long hair apparently got twisted in the rope as it spun! Well… at one point the tire came to a complete halt with both of our heads pinned against the rope… youch!

We screamed for help where my dad came dashing from the barn to untwist us. We looked at each other in complete shock and then started laughing until our guts hurt! We were obviously just fine, just startled. And our heads made out just fine. I don’t think we combed the tangles out that particular day though…

Tie that long hair back, girls. 🙂

We found a shortcut from ‘the office’ to our campsite. This is our trailer, buried way in the back. With no neighbours to speak of during the week, it truly felt like we owned the forest.

I’m going to show you a few of my favourite campsite set up tricks in another post.

Against the mountain was a rickety old arbour, that hosted a rustic walkway, leading onto a little mountain trail.

Yes, I am taking notes. 🙂

Spaced out logs half buried into the earth created another gorgeous pathway.

Ferns were everywhere, including growing out of the moss on this tree trunk. Isn’t that cool?

Loving the moss heavy branches reaching above the fern covered ground cover.

Large rocks became your stepping stones, or helped to define a trail. I would love nothing more than to have a forest in my own backyard.

Aren’t roots that aren’t buried beautiful?

And then there are trees that grow despite having fallen over or cut down.

Which way shall we go? How about all of the above?

Here’s a short clip I labelled as the world’s cutest campsite. More campsite peeks can be found on my Instagram HERE.

And then the pathway led us to a little hidden gem in the woods… riddled with junk. Coming up next!

  1. There was a time in my life when I was a single mom of two young boys. Vacations were tough to come by as far as expenses. Camping was the vacation we could afford. A few of my friends were also single moms and once a year we would all go camping at a local state park. To make it even more affordable, we would get together beforehand, make a menu and shopping list and split the cost of food. Every morning and evening we would all meet at one campsite and cook breakfast and supper. The kids had so much fun. We hiked the state park, went swimming at the huge pool and just spent a relaxing weekend. There were nature activities for the kids in the evenings provided by the campground. So many fond memories of those days.
Your camping trip looked wonderful. Loved all of your photos.

    • Oh that sounds wonderful! We use to be full season campers just a short while ago… for 14 years! We’d just leave our trailer up at the campsite and come and go as we pleased via car around work schedules. It was like having a second home. My son pretty much grew up on the beach. One of my favourite parts was knowing our ‘neighbour’s. The kids would take turns hanging out at someone’s campsite while the rest of us brought out a good book and just relaxed. A couple of highlights were when one camper scooted us around in his boat, and another day we all took our dogs and went on a hike and found a private beach. Group activities were loads of fun!

  2. Those are Muscovy ducks. I raise them here in Missouri. They are very quiet, don’t quack, which I love about them. What a wonderful camping area. Love your pictures!

  3. Oh yes, the “hair tangled in the tire swing” story will be with me until the end of time. lol If I remember correctly, you got the worst of it. So yes, to anyone with long hair wanting to jump on a tire swing, do remember to tie that hair back. Thanks for sharing your camping story! ox

  4. Donna-
Did I ever tell you that I live on a dead-end road? The “dead-end” is actually the entrance to a beautiful campground on a lovely river. Yep. It’s about a quarter mile from my house.
Drive that ol’ camper on down here! It’s only 2,996 miles!!

  5. I loved the sharing of the camping trip. Can’t wait to see more. I’m also wondering if you might do a segment on the trailer & what you pull it with and etc. Since you have the experience that some of us may not. Hope the rest of the summer is good for you.

  6. Beauty, nature, the woods, solitude and sunshine…sounds heavenly! Wonderful post! It sounds like you’ll never forget this trip! 🙂

  7. Looks like a fantastic camping trip. Years ago, our little family of 4, lived camping each weekend. So many good times were had.

  8. Donna, beautiful pictures! Thinking of when you would take Mom there. She loved it, love you my sister.Happy and many trails to you and Cody.

  9. Awesome pictures Donna! I think you could frame each one. A wonderful office you had on your holiday, and I love your “office co-workers” 🙂 I don’t remember seeing ducks with red faces like that, how cute! Ducks and geese make great pets 🙂 Thank you for sharing your trip, it has been fun to follow .. and I’m looking forward to the rest of the story!

  10. What a beautiful campsite and such a adorable camper you have! Love that little campsite with the yellow cabin and quaint picnic table! A great place for taking photos and I’ve enjoyed looking at them all! Thanks for sharing, Donna! Take care! Hugs, Leena

  11. Hi,great pics of your camping trip!Just wanted to say those ducks are Muscovy Ducks…had a bunch of em in Florida…loved them.

  12. This is so interesting, Donna. I love camping. There is such a peacefulness about it. Hubster doesn’t want to camp anymore and my daughter’s don’t want to either. Bummer. Well, we are going to Cape Cod, Massachusetts for a few days and I love the air near the ocean… Your friend, Linda
