Christmas kitchen junk home tour!

When one reaches the home tour stage at my place, it’s just about time to hang up the hammer for a spell! I plan to take time off in between Christmas and New Years this year, something I haven’t done in a LONG time! But with no breaks this year, it’s overdue and needed.

But I’m going out with a BANG! Today I’m sharing my kitchen decked out for Christmas with lots of new ideas, then cya back tomorrow where I’ll be sharing the grand finale living room tour with the fireplace and very. big. tree!

On with the kitchen tour!

I honestly think this is my fav Christmas kitchen to date, thanks to the natural colors…

The kitchen layout

To give you the lay of the land, my entire upstairs is open concept. So the angled island sits pretty much in the center of the upstairs.

On one side of the kitchen are the woodsy rustic cabinets offering loads of cozy warmth.

The Hot Cocoa Appliance Garage is busy pulling double duty lookin’ cute while working hard hiding all my coffee gear! I’ve since added hanging cups to one side which comes in really handy.

And along the other wall is a bank of 3 kitchen windows facing the mountain view out back. Windows never get old. If you can swing it, do it!

But you may have noticed a few new things going on here…

Do you remember my red then blue skis from last year?

It’s something fresh and different!

Which sets the stage for the rest of the decor…

About the ceiling:

.

The faux metal ceiling panels are made from hand cut mdf, then painted black to resemble metal panels. The rivets are wood plugs.

Seedling Christmas trees in galvanized buckets

The color scheme I used throughout the entire house this Christmas is wood, green and black.

The black ornaments above were spray painted, which you can read about in THIS post.

The cute seedling trees were picked up from Hobby Lobby last Christmas.

Frosted vintage window

.

While I ADORE those skis, this window was a last minute thought and ended up being my favorite feature!

If you look closely, the window looks iced up! And it is! But it’s faux. And really easy to do!

How to add frost to a window:

.

  1. Clean window, then lay flat with the front facing down.
  2. Spray Crystal Frost spray on the glass and allow to dry.
  3. As the spray dries, ice crystals form!

I use to use the crystal frost spray on regular windows in the house. And while it works great, it can be a little fussy to remove. So I felt using it on a vintage window would be easier so I can wash it off under a tap.

And if you spray the back of the window, it’ll be better protected as it can scratch up. Or in my case, get splashed on.

The beautiful wood snowflake is a gift from Pauline from My Altered State from many years ago. You can watch how she makes a different one in THIS POST ON YOUTUBE!

The window frost certainly is a breathtaking effect, isn’t it? I love that the sunlight can still penetrate through it. It would make a great privacy screen effect!

A cozy kitchen island

Moving over to the kitchen island, I had just landed this lovely black plaid table runner at a thrift store. It was the perfect size!

So an antique crate with a candle pedestal inside holds 3 candles with fresh cut evergreen branches (from my tree!).

Because the panels are removable, it’s fun to change up the look to plain again!

  9. Light, natural and wood tones with some bayberry and twinkling lights make your kitchen a little bit rustic, farmhouse, industrial and in my mind, just P.E.R.F.E.C.T.!!!!! Merry Christmas!

  10. This is absolute PERFECTION!! My favorite home/kitchen tour this entire Christmas (and that’s saying a lot coming from this loves-a-rainbow-of-color gal! Everything is just beautiful! Those skis have sure earned their keep! I love them, and the pair by the fireplace, but I think my favorite thing from this post is the seedlings in galvanized buckets. So cute as a pair (and I LOVE that Christmas tree with the Dec. 25 postmark!) Merry Christmas to you!

  11. Gorgeous, Donna. How on earth can anyone pick a favorite? Everything just works so beautifully together. Merry Christmas and enjoy your break. Can’t wait to see what you’ve done in the living room
