Natural Christmas tree with crate skirt
This year’s Christmas tree comes with a doozy story!
I put up my pretty flocked tree shared last year HERE, however after it was fully decorated, I wasn’t excited.
It was pretty enough. But I couldn’t marry it with the vision in my head. I longed for a natural forest look as if I was walking through my beloved forest trails with fresh fallen snow surrounding me.
The white flocked tree did that to a degree, but I couldn’t get past the faux part. Not this year.
So on a crazy whim, I waited until it stopped pouring for 5 minutes (I kid you not, it had rained for a straight month!) then sprinted down the street to a nearby tree farm that no longer trims their trees. Perfect! JUST the kind I desired!
But this story cannot be fully told without a companion video!
And wait until you see it at night…

The tree ended up being so large, it filled my picture window! So I started shuffling around the entire room to see what else could transpire…

And this was the result. A whole new living room, along with a massive tree landing in the centre of the room!
And I LOVE IT!
So let’s take a little closer look at this year’s Christmas tree beauty, shall we?

It’s one big crazy big rambling natural Christmas tree with DIY crate skirt that needs NO decorations.
There are so many lights on it, that it positively dazzles at night. When you walk by, it’s like it’s twinkling back at you. It’s spectacular. I wish I could capture the true look during the day, so I’ll attempt to take and add a night picture as well. Stay tuned…
So back when I was going to put up the flocked tree, I built a new rustic tree skirt for it. They looked amazing together! But when I switched the trees, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was perfect for this tree as well!
This DIY rustic tree skirt is once again another super easy build that you can install after the tree is up!
Here’s how I made it:

Tree crate how-to:
1. Rustic fence planks were cut to desired length, then painted with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint in Typewriter.
Find a local MMSMP retailer HERE
I chose not to topcoat the paint because I loved the matte rustic vibe!
About milk paint:
.
Milk paint comes in a powder form easily mixed with water. Visit the videos in THESE POSTS to see how easy it is to mix!
2. The crate was built around an already standing tree.
Simply join the boards at each corner, and attach with screws.
Create two layers, then stack them on top of each other.
3. Then brace together with a couple of front supports, and you are done!
A few pillows were placed inside the crate for added height, then a few burlap sand bags were positioned on top to hide the pillows and stand.
A tiny peek of Made in the North Pole was stenciled on one corner. This was from last year’s Christmas tree crate HERE

I just LOVE the ambiance of a large sprawling Christmas tree! This is the type of tree I had growing up, and this year my heart longed to get in touch with those that mean the most to me in any way I could, even if by memory.
This year’s tree is really more like a plant! haha Which made it even easier to decorate… and more charming and natural than ever.
It’s been a weird year. So it deserved something special. And I do believe this big rambling natural Christmas tree with DIY crate skirt did it!
