This sandbag pillow project is soooo simple, it’s nearly embarrassing!
But if you’re like me, and you like pillows but can’t find your sewing machine pedal, (best excuse yet!), you’ll love how easy this is. And it looks cool too.
Visit your local hardware store, and ask if they have any sandbags. Ours run about $1.25 each and they are the perfect size for a little no sew burlap pillow.
Using tape (this is Martha Stewart’s craft tape which is EXCELLENT, sticks very well to fabric), run a tape down the centre. Place pieces of tape on both sides of the centre tape, then remove the centre.
Place plastic wrap underneath where you plan to paint so it won’t bleed through.
Using acrylic craft paint, (in this case black), paint on your stripe. I went pretty heavy so it covered well.
Remove the tape and allow stripe to dry.
Stuff a small pillow into the sandbag…
… and tie it shut with twine. The clothes pin was added to have it appear like it was holding the works together.
I love the look beside that crate armrest!
For this sandbag pillow, a house number was sewn in place. Nice, bold number hit!

Wasn’t I right that this was too easy for a tutorial? And with no sewing machine pedal in sight…

Thanks so much for entering, everyone!
Love it. I have a sewing machine, but have a total fear of zippers and pipping and other things pillows usually require. This is right up my alley.
Wow – these are great! I love easy projects so I’m definitely going to copycat these. Love!!!!!

Easy is the best! Love the idea. I have never seen sandbags anywhere around here. Maybe it’s a regional thing. I’ll be on the lookout though.

So super easy!! Looks great!
What a great idea! This is my kind of craft….. I love it!
I love this idea.
Which Hardware store did you find these at? Is it one of the chain stores?
had to pin this…soooo awesome Donna
This is a keeper, I will be on a search for sandbags. Thanks for sharing your tips. Kathy
This is such a cute idea! I must try it!
I love your sandbag pillows and have been wanting to make some for so long. The problem is that I can not find burlap sandbags any where. What they have around here are white plastic bags with a draw string top and they call that a sandbag. So disappointing.
If you are looking for a similar bag, you can get them at burlapfabric.com for $1.70 each. I get a lot of my burlap fabric from them. These are awesome, and I love the idea of putting the wooden number on them. Really cute!!
Great pillows. I found some old time croaker sacks at the tractor supply. Perfect use for them. I did not have a clue what I would use them for but I bought them because they caught my eye. Thankyou for the idea. Suzonne
