I get asked all the time, “Are you coming out with any fall themed stencils?”
Whoops. 🙂
Well, we do have APPLE FARM. But specific fall themed, not yet.
I nearly did, but instead, we focused on our most requested all season designs, Laundry, Pantry, and Farmhouse.
So… that left me with only one thing to do. Figure out something fall-ish with what was already there.
Repurposing a stencil, if you will? 🙂
And I ended up with a block inspired idea, that works for ALL seasons! You just wait… this one is fun!
.
How to make an interchangeable FALL FARM reclaimed wood coat hook shelf
.
What you’ll need:
reclaimed wood square-ish posts
wire hangers
wire cutters – Amazon affiliate link
APPLE FARM stencil – My store link
Fusion Mineral Paint – Coal black – Fusion website link
2 long boards – 2 fence planks were used on mine
1. Snip the hook part off of 4 wire hangers, after the twisted join, where they straighten out again.
Tip: Vary the lengths for fun! No two have to be completely alike this round.
2. Cut 4 completely square blocks out of a reclaimed wood square post, then lightly sand the edges.
I prep all my reclaimed wood by pressure washing it first. Learn how HERE.
3. Dry fit the blocks and 2 reclaimed wood boards as shown.
4. Using the APPLE FARM stencil, stencil F A L L on the 4 blocks.
I used Fusion Mineral Paint’s coal black. Given to me by Fusion. Goes on fast, dries nearly instantly. No fussy paint shenanigans here!
Tip: To make it all season, flip the L blocks towards the back, then stencil R M on them. You’ll be glad you did!
5. Connect the shelf together using screws.
#1. Attach the top shelf onto the back board by screwing through the top, along the back edge, as shown.
#2 & #3. Attach blocks to the shelf, by screwing them into place through the backer board first, then top shelf.
.
6. Attaching the shelf onto the wall:
The shelf was then attached directly to the wall, using screws.
The chippy board underneath the shelf was slipped into place after the fact, then attached directly to the wall with screws.
7. The hanger hooks were attached by outfitting some bracket on top, then screwing down.
Hey… it worked. 🙂
And now you’re in for a real treat, because you can play with this thing all year around!
Here’s what I mean…
Look… a fall stencil! Happy FALL to you!
I LOVE the addition of the chippy board. It really works up the scale of the shelf, and ties in beautifully with the white blocks.
Wouldn’t this be a fun apple cider station too? Or for hot cocoa… or just coffee.
I say ‘just’ like it’s an after thought, when it’s actually my life.
Real hooks are expensive. Hanger hooks are free. How fun is that?
Tip: The hangers make for a sharp grab, so you may wish to ball up a sock or rag on them prior to hanging up something thin.
And you know I’m good for a little crate staging… here the crates were stacked for boot and paperwork storage for a front entry idea.
You noticed my new mums, didn’t you? I still have to blog about that special day! Soon.
So, now let’s pretend fall is over. Remember how you stencilled an R M on the L L blocks?
Flip them around, and you have…
Welcome to my all season FARM! Won’t you come on in, and sit a spell?
I can make coffee…
I really like that flat toolbox magnetic board idea… I’m gonna have to move that.
That’s my dad’s jean jacket, that he used on the farm. So, this one’s for him. 🙂
I just love all the weathered wood with the blues and blacks with this mix. Farmish indeed.
But… I couldn’t leave you without one more look, because.. you know… of the upcoming season and all…
You have now entered the Reindeer FARM!
I kid. It’s really Christmas on the farm. But I rather like reindeer farm more.
And my funny little reclaimed wood reindeer came out of hiding once again. Glad I hung onto it!
Oh, that wood with the white and red and green… swooning!
Now I want to go chop down a tree.
And so goes my first Christmas post of the season.
Which really goes to show, you can turn anything into a seasonal thing with simple staging of normal, everyday things.
So… this fun little Apple Farm stencil became so much more.
I challenge you to collect up your stencils, then play word games with them, creating new sayings and such. You will get so much more out of them!
And one more for the road, for those that prefer 5 minute projects…
Simple stacked FALL blocks… but with your chosen message.
Just think of all THOSE possibilities… 🙂

oh, my…just pop that in the mail headed to North Carolina! I know I’ll be stealing your block idea 🙂
Your Dad would love it!
Love, Love, Love!
ALWAYS, ALWAYS impressed with your creativity in everything you do ! I missed seeing your projects for a long while when you posted mainly about your trips and life. Such cool ideas !
Me too Dodie! I took a little hiatus from creativity due to some personal things going on. My new goal is at least one new project each week! Thanks for missing me… 😀
I love this! Using the hangers was genius!
Tania
Good morning, Donna
Love your ideas….
Great thinking in using your dad’s jacket. I have a picket from a picket fence I used as a coat and hat rack and have my dad’s old flannel shirt hanging off of it and his hats, one of which says HAT on the front, like no one knows it is a hat. Some things you just cannot part with.
This is a Wow! I wish I was like you – so many talents to admire! Truly – I look at your site and just think – how does she learn all that? I can play with computer stuff forever and still can’t figure things out. And your ‘look’… you deserve your own TV show or something similar! 🙂
Lovely! I need some shelves as my fiance’s ever growing camera collection is pushing out my little bits and pieces I like to display and this is a great idea. I’m going to make a couple but leave off the hooks, and I am going to stencil “NESS” on the blocks so only my things can live on them! I love your porch too, it looks so welcoming and cheerful. Ness x
Love it all!!
I love everything about all 3 looks Donna, but man, that deer head though!
