I think the term is nesting when you get super busy shuffling things around for a new addition… and in this case, a junky office revamp transpired for the welcoming of a new mac computer!

The hard drive went on my older mac. Nearly the same day, my son spilled a nice big cup of water all over his laptop keyboard and fried it. So! I had a choice. To buy a new laptop or refurbish my old computer, both for the same price. And you can bet the big bad mac won. It now runs like a brand spankin’ new machine. It’s wonderful!
Which was of course the perfect opportunity to upgrade to a new system for me! Bummer, huh? 🙂
And yeah… I love it! More than love it. I hadn’t realized I wore out my keyboard AND mouse. It pays to swap them out after 4 years.
Now, before you think how spoiled I am, (which I admit I kinda am) this wait for amazing equipment took YEARS to accomplish. Many, many years.
I’ve been through plenty of hard times in my past. I remember how I use to write down when I HAD to pay a bill because I needed every red cent to pay for today. Sticky notes with dates were tagged to everything. I even intentionally paid some bills late because I couldn’t make the due dates.
Today, I’m far from rich. But I always seem to have enough. And I can’t tell you what a huge comfort that is.
So what changed? What happened?
The key to getting out of my financial bind was to start doing something I LOVED to do. Crazy, huh? Yep, it was that simple. In a complex kind of way.
This passion thing? It works very differently from a 9-5. With a 9-5, you put in your time so you can dash home and forgetaboutit. A passion job? It never leaves your system, and you’re good with that! Spending all those crazy hours on something you love doing is a joy! And that’s what it ultimately takes to make it. You have to put in the time for the build.
I haven’t always been a mac girl. You can read my pc to mac review HERE. In a nutshell, I just adore the quality of the screen and operating system in general.
So! A tiny little office shakeup transpired for this grand computer event. Everything was gutted, then shifted around with new intention. This round, it was all about funky office storage.
This old crate is totally empty and waiting for my son’s school paperwork he brings home. This is the stuff that gets filed away as a keepsake. Let’s just not talk about the 5 years worth already sitting and waiting for the great scrapbooking plan to transpire…
And then there’s the inbox… ? is about right! I never know what to do with it all when it first arrives so it’ll all go in here until I figure it out.
Here’s another crate storage idea… for dvds. The crusty old licence plate hides the messy proof. And makes me wish I could go visit Arizona. Never been yet.
Kinda nice to have everything in it’s place, be functional and look rather cool. I feel happy and inspired blogging from here!
I know. Still little colour. After staying at Karen’s vacation home, I aim to add more. But first I need to buy some paint! A junker that loves her wood tones doesn’t stock much of that stuff. Trying out Miss Mustard Seed’s milk paint is high on my list! Dying to try that super chippy effect. I’d love one of every colour please…
I lied. There’s colour! Subtle, but it’s there. The sunlight streaming through these vintage jars and bottles is pretty cool. And ready for some new pens and pencils inside.
And there you have it. Passion buys a new mac computer… and a junky office revamp.
… and a pretty cute intern. {swoon…}

I have envied your office from the first day I spotted it and you deserve a special computer, you have earned it! I also am vacationing vicariously through your latest getaway. I did not get a vacation this year for various reasons (no whine here just the facts) but at least I can envision myself relaxing in that fab cottage by the lake. So thank you for sharing. 🙂
ohhh Pamela, I know how that feels. Last summer I never made it to the beach even once. I was pretty ashamed of myself so I just vowed to MAKE it happen this summer. Your turn is next! No excuses!
What a lovely place to work, it’s absolutely beautiful! And your intern is adorable! I’m so glad your new kitties found you.
Those two bring me so much joy each day! I barely remember a time I didn’t have them… and I’ve only had them for 2 months! Cutest little shadows ever. And thanks for the kudos!
VEEERRRY inspiring!
I’m seeing a #2 theme… what’s that about? I have a thing for the # 518 . . . and I’ve talked about it on the blog – it shows up n my pictures all the time. I think I saw AT LEAST 3, #2’s in this post. . . and then there was that giant #2 that you made a while back. . .hmmmm…
your desk/office is gorgeous – and you’ve maybe inspired me to paint something on my (newly cleared) desk!
-breida
I never thought of that! I actually love the look of a 2. Is that weird? I think the shape is pretty. 🙂
Yes, go paint something cool! My pinning finger is ready for a good Breida with a B fix…
This post couldn’t have come at a better time. Doing something that you love – a passion job! What must that feel like?! I’ve been spinning my wheels for years trying to figure out how to do just that and be able to survive. Fear of failure and the unknown holds me back every time. I think that is one of the reasons I love your blog so much. You’ve punched through your fears and have blossomed. It’s so inspiring. Reading your posts every day is like snuggling up in warm blanket. I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you!
Aw, thanks so much Yvette! Gushing!
I do have some advice for you. Just do it alongside your dayjob. You’ll soon see your passion work building steam and then you’ll know when the time is right to leave the old behind. I’m still working on the nerve to make the big leap myself!
Let’s hold hands and leap together! 🙂
I’ve always loved your work space, Donna. I love it even more now. I also love the subtle color. I’m glad your passion is paying off. You deserve it. Believe me, I completely understand hard times.
Love it…everything looks great!
And you have the cutest intern that I’ve ever seen!!
Oh yes…we should follow our heart and make our passion job come true.
~Cindy
Welcome to Arizona anytime.
Well, if you thought the cottage on your trip was inspiring… this is just WOW! I could look at the pictures all day and see more and more that can be used in so many rooms! And so beautifully photographed.
I love your new work area!! It is Fab!! The shades of blue from the hydrangeas are nice. Did you dry them yourself?
