The secret meadow trail ride with video

The Blue Heron Reserve shot from the Vedder River Rotary Trail in Chilliwack, BC

I’m not sure whether I should be patting myself on the back for hitting the bike trails pretty much every single day these days…

Or ashamed of myself because I’m generally on those trails before I get a decent amount of work done.

Whoops.

I guess we may as well blame our improved weather. RIGHT when I know there’s about 2 more hours until nightfall, I just know. I drop EVERYTHING and fly down the stairs with an ice cold water bottle in hand like the wind blew me.

Good call. Let’s just blame the wind.

It’s honestly the only time of day I don’t glance at the clock. Strange but true.

And of course, while I bike bike bike my little heart out, I stop stop stop constantly because I just HAVE to capture the sights on the camera. Just have to!

It’s like painting a picture with your eyes.

I’m always shooting mini live videos on Instagram Stories, so if you follow me there, you can’t miss them.

These photos are from a combination of the best shots over the past couple of days.

I play a little game… how can I capture the SAME trails I ride along every day in a different way?

Not sure why I haven’t run out of things to shoot yet, but I never do.

Which lead me to a special find tonight…

Along what we deem Peach Trail, which is connected to the Vedder River Rotary Trail in Chilliwack, BC, Canada, there’s this little off shoot that is actually a cattle run.

The cattle run starts from a farmer’s field, cuts over the river dike, through the Rotary Trail, then into this side trail that leads towards a babbling creek that the cows need to cross in order to get to their field.

If you look past that gate, you’ll see their incredible little meadow. It resembles a secret garden. It’s a stunning spot that doesn’t even feel like home.

It’s like I’m in England or something.

No, I have never been to England. I think this is my way of saying I need to test this theory, get on over there and compare for myself!

Here, let me zoom in a little…

One day when the water recedes a little, I may attempt to wade across the creek myself to spec out that magical meadow! It sure pulled hard on me tonight.

I have noticed this area before today, however tonight it just appeared magical.

All the new spring growth is so lush, and the evening sun just lit everything up like a gorgeous painting touched up with the most perfect highlights.

Everything appeared technicolor vibrant tonight!

This gorgeous moss covered forest tree was as colourful as a rainbow.

This shimmery span of water is what I deem my thinking creek.

I pull over MANY times along this area when I am either troubled or stressed about something.

It just seems to wash all my worries away.

So lest you were all impressed that this ‘athelete’ on her bike clips out 100 miles in one fell swoop…. ah, no. I’m generally in jeans and a heavy coat, and stop hundreds of times for pictures.

And shimmery creek thinking moments.

Go me…

But, ya know what? This nature thing works.

It’s an easy place to focus on what you’re doing in the moment, taking that mini mental vacation from everyday duties.

I think this proclaimed exercise isn’t really a duty like other work out things for me because I do it in such a way that I fully enjoy.

I am stronger by doing it. And some days I go faster than others.

However, the most important part about this whole bike trail riding deal?

I make sure I do it in a way that makes it fun.

And since it’s fun, it’s something I want to do!

Sometimes I think I’m overdoing it on Insta Stories. ANOTHER photo shoot of the same forest?!

And that’s generally when I’m surprised with someone piping in, thanking me for inspiring them to dust off their own bikes and get out there.

And THAT makes me very, VERY happy.

Why I trail ride

#1. I trail ride to be in the forest.

#2 are the photo opportunities. I just can’t stop.

#3 is exercise. While that’s a given, I’m glad it doesn’t feel like I’m doing that.

It’s kinda like earning money for me. We all need it, but it’s never the first reason I do something. There’s always a passion of sorts attached.

So if you’re one that is currently groaning at the fact that moving isn’t something you just wanna get into right now, I encourage you to bring along your camera. Challenge yourself to capture beautiful shots. It’ll change the entire aspect of your outing.

  1. Thank you, Donna. No wonder you bike every day with such beautiful trails nearby. The trees, sky, the sound & sight of water are truly magical. I feel like I just had a vacation and it’s not even 7 am yet! blessings on your day from Oregon [where it’s beautiful, too :o)].

  2. Hello Donna. Yes indeed those shots of the cow meadow do look very like my little corner of Devon, UK. I too would be out everyday if there were such enticing bike trails ,rivers, choices of route, trees and wildlife. Love your posts and comments about your beautiful part of BC.
