8 – Celebrating the new workshop curbside storage rack

Remember the rack I found on the curb that I put new casters on? Here it is in its new home!

That is indeed a baseboard heater behind it. With the rack on wheels, it’ll be a snap to move it a safe distance away should the heat be needed. How perfect is that?

The freezer was originally in the way. But with no where to put that thing, the rack sat in front of the house for a short spell.

Until I gutted the laundry room and called over neighbour Jake to help me cart that thing inside the house.

THIS is just a thing of beauty! Where would I be without that find?! NOOOOO idea.

I may add one more shelf (somehow) at some point if it’s needed.

My glorious new rack is now the proud owner of all the little reclaimed wood cuts! So perfect!

That weird basket got put to work holding gloves and rags.

And this old vintage pencil sharpener (I meant to sell at the booth but left it home on purpose) is officially screwed to the work table. Sharp pencils forever here I come!

Remember the big reveal day for the saw table reclaimed wood wall area?

It sure looks clean and impressive, doesn’t it? Reveals always do. But it’s what you don’t see that I really think you should today.

Lest you think I’m too amazing to be real. Because now THAT would not be the truth.

While doing the photoshoot, I was tripping and falling over crap while shooting the pretty side. Busted.

But, no more.

(the other side is clean, I promise!)

This is a little temporary painting or parts table. It doesn’t take up much space, and is easy to move outside in a moment’s notice where I prefer to sand.

Pretty impressive, right?

Well… don’t get too excited.

Because now I have to find a place for all THIS! BAAAHHH!!

Sigh…

There’s only one thing I gotta say about this.

workshop table and painting paper / 8 - Celebrating the curbside workshop rack / are you celebrating small successes along the way? via FunkyJunkInteriors.net

A good friend of mine use to remind me to celebrate even the very small successes.

If someone in the shop learned to swing a new tool or achieve some kind of status in something or other, he’d halt the presses, (power tools) and go pick up our favourite fruit cake (platz) from the deli down the road.

Great idea! I’m going to stop organizing for a day, by celebrating the new workshop curbside storage rack and my ½ cleaned up workshop!

By building something fun to hold this roll of painting paper on…

…while munching on a platz of course. 🙂

  1. Oh Donna, fun fun fun even in what you label “chaos”. :)) Your new rack is fab and I really appreciate you sharing your process as well as your creations.
Please tell me what is “painting paper”? I think of water color paper…
    Thanks,
    Christina

  2. Love the fact that you can be messy, too!!! Love it! Keep up the great work. You are so inspiring to me, and I am old enough (or older) than your mother.

  3. I love that you mentioned celebrating life’s little accomplishments. I am doing the First Place 4 Health Beginners Bible study and we just talked about celebrating the little accomplishments and praising God for it! I love how He works all things together for the good of those who love Him. You mentioning that just reinforces it for me. By the way, your shop is coming along very well!

  4. Thanks so much for sharing this! I often feel so inferior when I see photos of amazingly clean and organized rooms and workshops. How on earth do they keep things to tidy while actually doing work in these rooms? What is wrong with me that I can’t do that? Now I will look at them differently and just assume they have at least a small corner that is (a disaster) not so neat as the rest of it. I’ve long said that you can’t really organize without making a mess first. I’ve suspected, but it’s good to know I’m not the only one. Thanks again for always being honest!

  5. You shop looks amazing! I’m sure that what you have accomplished makes you feel so great every time you walk out there.

  6. Donna
I am utterly C-R-A-P at celebrating my success. Big or small!
I am going to do my best to try change this.
Thanks again, for sharing the photos of your cool workshop – both neat & messy. It’s inspiring.

  7. I’ve been working on cleaning my garage, which has never had vehicles in it, and believe me looked much worse than yours! I found things I didn’t remember because it was in boxes and piles stacked to the ceiling. I made salvage piles and added to the piles from the old bldgs. on the 40 acre ranch I live on. Everything my daughter and I loaded today for the salvage yard I thought about “what would Donna make with this”? After selling 3 pickup loads – 1501 lbs. – of scrap metal, my daughter was feeling good about re-cycling and I was feeling good about cleaning up a bit since I still have enough old rusty metal & old wood to last me a lifetime and everything else I’m going to do something with hanging from the rafters and on every wall of every building. THANK YOU for all the great ideas and sharing everything in your life!

  8. There is nothing like an organized space to bring on the mood to create. Hard to believe now that someone didn’t want that shelf, it’s perfect for your shop.

  9. I surely would worry about someone who worked a lot on a project and did not make a mess. I think they just have the “clean up” part scheduled more frequently than I do. I use that time to keep working. LOL Bet you do too. 🙂
