Day 9 – from faux garland to a real rustic wreath

Not sure what’s come over me the past few years, but anything faux has been left in the Christmas box with me gravitating to real greens instead. It’s rather messy business working with the real thing, but it looks so cool!

So if you’ve caught the realism bug like I have, here’s how you can go from faux garland to a real rustic wreath for Christmas.

How I did it:

 1. Pull the old garland out of the bag you had bound for the thrift store because it’ll become your home base.

2. Collect real greens from outside. The more variety, the better! Include some branches in your findings too.

3. Join the ends of the garland by twisting some metal branches together.

4. I kid you not… I stuck every branch in loose like and it’s pretty sturdy. You can use the faux greens to twist around the real thing for extra grip if needed. If your garland is spindly, maybe use hot glue.

5. Dress it up! Rope, ornaments, dried hydrangeas… and a rusty red Ohio license plate for me please!

… and with.

Tip: Try adding faux snow if something is going in a dark are inside the home. It really helps brighten up the greens.
