Well friends! I nearly didn’t create any Christmas home tours this year. My own Christmas decorating ran late due to flooding in our little valley. I was one of the very fortunate ones, however with evacuating and such, time became tight.

However at the eleventh hour, I went full tilt and did it anyway! A Christmas home tour is one of the very best ways to clean the house for Christmas because a camera picture hides nothing. LOL

And I’m happy to share that I can add another Christmas project to that list with this DIY wood trees Christmas kitchen decor tour! With a nice, fresh, clean kitchen!

Sure beats boxes piled to the ceiling for weeks…

DIY wood trees Christmas kitchen decor

 

So, DIY wooden Christmas trees have apparently become a country living thing here this Christmas. I shared how I propped them in up a vintage cabinet HERE, and how they landed on this year’s Christmas mantel HERE. 

However since I appeared to have a surplus of them, a few made it into the Christmas kitchen as well! 

They just add such charming rustic holiday cheer to any given space.

How to make DIY wooden Christmas trees

 

Making a little wooden mini Christmas tree is so easy, make the most charming Christmas ornaments and cost you absolutely nothing. Simply cut one reclaimed board on an angle, flip it over and cut again. Repeat until you have all the trees you desire.

So let’s now continue with the Christmas kitchen decorating tour, so I can share how I used the wood trees as kitchen decor!

Big evergreen branch window valance

 

Welcome to my kitchen!

The kitchen is part of an open floor plan with two walls lined with cupboards. So facing straight on towards the back yard is the kitchen window area that got yet another quirky window valance.

Instead of green skis like last year, a massive evergreen branch that is even loaded with pinecones is this year’s Christmas kitchen valance!

How I shop for Christmas outdoors

 

This wind fallen branch was scavenged along one of our nearby country roads. It’s my favorite place to gather up evergreen branches for decorating the fireplace mantel and other areas of the home.

It’s free greenery! I usually wait until right before Christmas so the branches are at their freshest.

Antique sifter DIY wooden Christmas tree wreath

 

Rather than a traditional evergreen wreath, here’s a new Christmas wreath twist!

My favorite part of the window valance area is the DIY wooden Christmas tree wreath made from an antique soil sifter. A soft cotton rope was attached to the hop to hang it up!

The little DIY wooden Christmas trees are attached from the back of the sifter screen using screws.

This unique Christmas wreath took just a few minutes to make. My kinda decorating! What I also love about this rustic Christmas wreath is that the sifter doesn’t darken the window, still allowing all the sunshine right through. Perfect.

Turning towards the stove, lots of warm, rustic woodsy things sitting on the countertop come into play to further cozy up the kitchen space.

This space always takes on such a different look each year. I generally turn the entire space into a hot cocoa station which you can see in these home tour posts.

A little wooden tray was screwed to the wall behind the stove, with a wooden Christmas tree propped up in the middle of it! What a perfect fit.

The wood tree was a gift from Missy from The Little Green Bean years ago… see it HERE.

For this year, I quickly painted one side in Fusion Mineral Paint’s Bayberry, then sprinkled it with faux snow before the paint was dry. It stuck perfectly! So my snowy little green pine tree blended in perfectly with the wooden tree and neutral theme.

This year, I bypassed the hot cocoa station HERE and stayed with the coffee theme on the appliance garage instead. What can I say? Coffee is my main beverage so I may as well keep celebrating it!

Hung on the side of the coffee station crate, two snow white mugs help to brighten up the space, along with a charming cluster of DIY wooden Christmas trees as well as a little wooden cabin!

I made the cabin for the Christmas mantel I shared here, but ended up not needing it. So the Christmas kitchen won the spot!

Here’s a fun twist to a traditional Christmas village. I’ll just call this my scrap wood village.

I rather like how the tall wooden tree sitting on the counter becomes a natural extension of the wooden cutting boards, as well as blending in with the little tree village on the window sill. This idea would be so fun on open shelving, but a window sill works too!

 

How to make the wood cabin

 

The wooden cabin with the snowflake use to be a Hot Cocoa sign I made HERE. LOL! Yes, I cheat greatly when I create on the fly.

I simply cut the tip off the arrow sign, then screwed a wood chunk to it for a front door.

They would look adorable styled as wooden gingerbread houses as well which I think I will put on my challenge list for next Christmas!

However here’s how to cut a roof from any plank:

1. Place a plank of wood in your miter saw.
2. Angle the cutting blade to 45 degrees.
3. Cut half the tip of the plank.
4. Flip the board over, and cut the other half. Instant roof!

Vintage accents with cutting boards and wooden spoons

 

On the other side of the stove in the corner is a cluster of vintage cutting boards as well as a jar filled with wooden spoons, with a touch of evergreen branches with those decadent pinecones still attached. Aren’t those fresh cut greens the best?!

Since I just love the look of woodsy kitchen accessories, collecting antique cutting boards has come in quite handy!

The little white crock is a special cookie jar I bring out each holiday season. It will eventually be filled with what I call Peppernut cookies, a special german cookie I make each Christmas. I cannot wait to hear the clank of closing that crock lid while I inhale the gingerbread cookie aroma that’s soon to come!

In the center of the kitchen island (I don’t have an official kitchen table in this space) is this faux Christmas tree placed inside a vintage crate acting as a tree skirt.

The pictures don’t show it well, however the fresh evergreen branches in the crate have fairy Christmas lights along with fresh mandarin oranges and a few walnuts. Love the natural woodsy feel this little tree offered!
