With only one more week to go before Christmas (egads…), I am still busy fluffing the joint up!
So when the idea of showcasing our favorite Christmas Junk projects past and present came up, let’s just say I NEEEEEDED this. This little deadline gave me the perfect opportunity to make something new to pretty up yet another corner of my home for Christmas.
However there’s much more to this one than meets the eye…
Not only am I going to share a new project, you’re going to get a blast from the past of my own fav Christmas junk projects under Reclaimed Wood, Signs, and Fast and Easy.
But we still aren’t done yet!
Below this post, 4 junker buddies are also sharing their fav junk projects as well! So be sure to visit the links at the end of this post to visit them all!
Beware.. you may get junk drunk.
For my new project, I desired to create a new throw pillow design that could extend beyond Christmas, however still look festive during the season.
Plus, it was fast and easy, and a sign of sorts!
Bakery spoke to me this time of year because, well, who isn’t baking?
I also love vintage grain sacks and desired to have this pillow resemble a vintage inspired flour sack. So here is my rendition…
This idea was inspired by Sew A Fine Seam’s Potting Shed pillow HERE and Homeroad’s Lunch plate HERE. This look seems to work with anything!
What you’ll need:
Ikea pillow slip and pillow feather insert – I used 20″
Grain Sack Stencils HERE (used is #G6)
Paint used: Fusion Mineral Paint’s Coal Black and Fort York Red
or purchase from local merchant HERE
Stencil brush
How-to
And now for something completely different!
Instead of sharing the full tutorial here, you can watch a Facebook Live on it! The video isn’t very long and does showcase lots of tips on how to stencil up any pillow case.
Visit the VIDEO HERE on Facebook!
How brave was I? I think I’m still shaking in my bare feet.
You can also learn how to stencil on a pillow in THIS post.
And here’s where it ended up!
Because I moved my Christmas tree beside the fireplace, this space came in mighty handy for an extra chair.
That appears to be very popular I might add.
Vintage wood framed windows were lined up along the picture window to add a little rustic character. Then a patio chair was brought in, and a little rustic bench for a quick coffee fix.
Since Lake doesn’t indulge in coffee, he’s perfectly content to simply keep the chair cat-haired warmed up for anyone that happens by for a visit.
I’m super pleased with this little rustic setup and the pillow gives off the perfect festive nod while not being super obvious. And of course, looks really cute without Christmas around it too!
And now… here’s a little walk down Christmas junk memory lane… some of my favs separated in 3 categories. Can you remember a few of these?
.
While this garland is super easy to make, it isn’t all that quick. But nothing a good Netflix series playing in the background won’t fix!
I seriously adore this rustic project, which can last forever.
Not having table-top space for a snow village, simple outdoor elements were added to a little crate instead! Includes a flickering fire pit.
Christmas branch candles vignette
I don’t really think candle sticks can get much quirkier than this… fun take with branches and rusty junk.
Reclaimed wood Christmas tree plus salvaged star
A few old chipped fence planks were gathered together to create quite the little attention grabber. I hope its 10 min of fame doesn’t go to its head! I’ll give it a star anyway.
See what I did there?
Reclaimed wood deer head with branch antlers / coat hook shelf
I’m really showcasing this project because of the beloved deer head that made yet another appearance this Christmas on my mantel. It’s super quirky and my kinda taxidermy!

Pallet wood You Cut Tree Farm Christmas sign in a vintage milk bucket
I loved the challenge of a shaped sign this round. So easy to make, and it looks good nearly anywhere. Especially around a bunch of cut branches.
Reclaimed wood winter directional Christmas signs
I’ve always loved the idea of making a directional sign. I mean, is there such a thing as too many signs?! I think not, especially when they spell out all those kinds of fun! Now that’s a street corner I’d like to get lost on…
This post includes creating 2-tone effect with stencils.
Junk inspired Christmas tree in an Antiques enhanced old crate
A plain ‘ol wooden trunk became a little Antiques special with an attached picture frame and easy stencil treatment. And will look terrific once the tree comes down too!
Such an easy update for a plan fronted crate of any kind.
Dual everyday and Christmas TV tray
Desiring something a little more Christmas-like in the living room, my eyes darted to a TV tray in my junk stash. Being that I desired to use the tray year around, a special slip-on Christmas-themed tray was created. Now I have both!
Whadda way to decorate in 30 seconds flat…
Festive red Sleigh Rides arrow Christmas sign with snowflakes
Well, hello there again easy arrow sign! You’re looking mighty festive as a coat hook area. Would be a cute stocking hanger too.
This post includes an easy take on an arrow tip and has become one of my most replicated signs to date. Way to go, creative folks!

Branch bead and cranberry Christmas wreath
This project is so sweet and couldn’t be easier. Cut branches create the beads, and a few fresh cranberries add a bright festive touch. Fun project for kids, and would make cute wreaths on the backs of chairs.
Super quirky Christmas wreaths made from wheels and other things
What are the chances of finding a chippy wheel in all the right colours?! Lake approved indeed.
This post also includes a few other wheel wreath ideas.
Talk about fast, you’ll have this done sooner than the grain sack one I showed you today! Love how striking the black and white looks.
Easy twig Christmas tree hung from a branch door
Do you remember my twig garland back in the day? Here’s the mini Christmas tree version.
Christmas and all season reversible coasters
If you have a coffee lover in your midst, custom coasters are such a great gift! Slip in a coffee card and you have a complete gift.
This post shows what’s on the other side, and how they look all wrapped up with twine as gifts and shares stencil details.
Stacked rusty gear Christmas tree candle votive
Can’t get much safer for a votive holder and it’ll take you under 1 minute to make!
Firewood and scrap wood stenciled Christmas ornaments
After a day of shopping the stores and not finding anything that hit me, I shopped my workshop instead. A little bit of firewood and a 3×3 post and a couple of stencils went a long way!
Mason jar rim and ornaments Christmas tree door wreath
This was the year I didn’t have a wreath, so I made this instead. Thicker jar rims work best, so be on the lookout!
Illuminate vintage windows snowy Christmas mantel
And I wanted to end the easy section with one of my most fav mantels to date. Love how the windows appear to be illuminated like a real little cabin outdoors.
Well, that was just fun! Which ones were your favs?

I love everything you do, seriously! I am not sure I have ever not liked and wanted to recreate one of your projects. The red, white and black pillow is perfect and definitely extend beyond the holidays. I also want the black ornaments with the white snowflakes. Thank you for sharing your creativity and for creating wonderful, unique, high-quality stencils. Merry Christmas!
You seriously never disappoint! Your projects are awesome and your photos are nothing short of amazing! Great projects… I’ve even stolen a few myself 🙂
I probably have every single piece of junk you have ever re-purposed, pinned for my to do list. But why did you put an old drawer pull on the wood and tree branches? Ah ha ha ha ha ha…. it’s a nose Bliss, a deer nose! Merry Christmas *deer* friend.
Donna, you make junk so classy and fun too. A lot of my favs were in this post. I love alternative Christmas trees and the gear tree is timeless. And the crate with the campfire. Genius.
You continue to inspire me to create and improve my blog! And you have made me a stencil fanatic! Thanks for creating the buff check stencil so I could buffalo check my Christmas! Looking forward to stenciling in 2018.
Can I mention which part of this vignette I like best? … I LOVE that chunky table! I don’t recall it from other posts, though you do not mention it as a newly made project. And I love how you brought in a piece of your outdoor furniture. So often outdoor furniture is so sturdily made and so suitable for use indoors.
But my favorite is the cat! And, he is color coordinated to match the house! How good of him.
Haha, I always thank my cats for being so colour coordinated! I put a lot of those live ramblings on Instagram Stories (via phone).
If you’re referring to that chunky bench under the picture window, it’s the bench I made for my front door that I brought in. The link is under the picture with all the old windows but discreet.

xx Jo
Donna Everything looks so wonderful! That Bakery pillow is absolutely adorable!!! ❤️
Everything you make I just love. You seem to just make everything look so easy & totally uncluttered in your home & I absolutely adore Lake what a little cutie. Funny but I’m in the U.K. & I’ve got that exact throw & it’s mega old now being over 20yrs old & very much looking worse for wear from numerous kitties loved & lost over the years bless them. Yours looks totally new & Lake claw free lol
Thank-you Louise! And that’s so funny about the throw. It IS old. I had it before my son was born and he’s about to turn 19! It’s in amazing shape, cats don’t seem to appreciate a good thing when they see it thank goodness! haha
I love everything! I could not pick a favorite and would love one of each at my place.
I hope you find some time to slow down over the holidays
Merry Christmas,
Jane
These are awesome, and despite the fact I’ve followed you forever, there’s some I missed!
